Holy Moly! Reading everyone's posts daily is so inspiring. I have a pre nutrition session in month and then after that, I don't know what happens. Hopefully my appointments will be scheduled soon after that, and then surgery. I don't know what to expect as far as time lines go, but I can tell you that I am so tired of living with the tiredness, the lack of mobility, the lack of will power with food, and the constant reminder of how large I am.

Congrats for reaching the point where change in lifestyle is needed. It took years to gain so IMO its not a race to lose it.

Believe me, it seems sonfar away in the beginning but before you know it, you are 3 weeks post op like myself :-)

Welcome to the site.

Start a journal.  Record all these feelings you are having.  Write down why this change is soooo wanted and needed.  What you HATE about things right now and how you desperately need change.  Not only is writing your thoughts theraputic but it also provides you with valuable information about yourself.

Later on down the road we start to forget how bad we really felt.  It's awesome to have something to look back on and re-read when you are feeling discouraged.

.  Just as I preach to take tons of pics from the start( even if you hate having pictures taken !!!) I will also preach to record how you feel along this journey.....trust me later on you will be glad you did!!!!!

Hi MonaLisaSmile (my mom's name was Mona!) Starting a journal is a great idea. I'm going to start doing that. I really appreciate you taking the time to reply.

In addition to taking lots of pics start taking your measurements on a regular basis. This will help keep you sane when you're doing everything right and the scale just isn't cooperating. It happens.

Also I throw this caution out for you to consider, the surgery doesn't fix your lack of will power with food. That's all about you and your brain. Making the right choices is a lifelong struggle. All the crappy food will still be there tempting you. It's how you deal with it that will determine your success. The surgery is a tool, put it to good use and you'll do great! Your increased energy and mobility will help you fight the food demons!

Over 100 lbs lost! and 13 lbs below goal weight!

Hi Ginny. Thanks for your reply. I know that surgery is a tool and in fact I was reluctant to write that I had a lack of willpower because I thought maybe some would misinterpret that to mean to that I was hoping the surgery to fix it. I know that I have a very long road ahead of me and as thrilling as it is to read everyone's success story, part of the whole idea around the surgery scares me because of such a great commitment it is...a life long one. I have been known to "give up" on things, so I know this will be a challenge for me. I am glad I found this site though. I have read that it is the one thing that helps people later on out.

Hi, and welcome!

The time will go by quicker than you'll be able to believe.

Everyone gave you some great advice; a journal or blog or youtube channel is a great way to track your progress and have something concrete to look back at later.

I'm only 1 month post op but the shame and feelings of failure left me as soon as I started Opti on Jan. 18th. That alone makes it so worth it to me. It feels so wonderful to watch the scale go down instead of up, and to need new clothes because they're too big instead of too tight. I feel like I've been given a new start.

Others have mentioned that food cravings are still there, but for me, they are mostly nonexistent, but sometimes they come like a gentle whisper instead of an insistent clamoring shout, the way they were before. I've also found that if I get a craving, it just means it is time for me to eat something.

I assumed I would be hungry all the time and barely eating because the small portion sizes I am allowed scared me when I first saw them in Orientation, but now that I have my new pouch, I've discovered eating and drinking is a full time job and it seems like I am constantly sipping or nibbling on my meals. It takes so long to eat or drink anything now. I never, ever feel deprived or hungry, ever.

I had to go out and buy a mug warmer to keep my warm meals warm, it takes so long to eat them they were getting cold after the first few spoons. Best investment (12 bucks at Canadian Tire, lol) ever :-).

Hi Kathy,

Thank you so much for your reply. It really helped me when I read it...especially the part about the shame and feelings of failure leaving you. I am at a point right now in my life, that I am so absorbed with these feelings that I cannot think about anything, except the fact that my clothes are starting not to fit me properly. I've never been this big. I am making a schedule to exercise and watching my portion sizes now in preparation for this huge life change. I just wish I knew how long I will have until my surgery...yes I know I'm impatient! I am a planner as well though, which I think will help with all of it. Thanks again...

along with what every one else has written, I would say write down how you feel right now so that you can go back to it when the seeds of doubt come as they will. I am only 9 days post op am the recovery is going well, but I am missing the volume eating .... it is mental for me because I am not hungry at all - remembering what brought me to this stage has helped a lot ... it is a great journey, not easy, but doable and very rewarding .... this process gives up HOPE ... for the first summer since I can remember, I may actually not mind it being summer time ....
