Question: Post-op Week 1-2, Eating/Drinking together?
I'm on Optifast Day 5 (of 14) and am thinking ahead to my return home (surgery March 3rd!!!)
I know you can't eat/drink together, but for the first two weeks everything is kinda liquidy anyways so can I have my oatmeal/cream of wheat/yogurt at the same time as my Protein Shake, or should I have my shake and wait 30mins before having the rest of my meal?
Thanks in advance!

I'm not sure it's right, but I drank with my meals while on full fluids. Like you, I figured it was all fluids anyways. My priority at this stage was getting enough fluid in and not getting dehydrated.
Once I started puréed stage, I stopped having them together and waited the 30 minutes. It's difficult. I still have the urge to want to wash down my food. I also find it challenging to get my fluids in. Takes so long to have a meal, there's not much time before the next one starts. I was drinking most of my fluids at night when my eating was done.
I'm 4 weeks tomorrow and now finding this easier.

The Ottawa Hospital says that drinking is OK with meals when you are clear fluid/full fluid.

My booklet (from Sudbury Bariatric Regional Assessment and Treatment Center) says I don't have to separate liquids from food until I reach the soft food stage, 1 month post op. I did wait 30 minutes after eating pureed food, just to get in the habit though. I had some problems with pureed food and am now back on full liquids for 3 days.

This is totally fine. TBH I drink right up until when I eat all the time. I usually wait 30 mins - it's actually not that hard once you get used to it. And before surgery i ALWAYS had a glass of milk with food. Funny how easily things change and your "new normal" becomes the actual normal.
