Pain a few hours after eating

I'm 19 days post op and had a terrible time with pain the first week and a half.  It got better for 3 days and then I dropped a pill and without thinking, bent over, fast, to pick it up, and the pain came back.  It's on the left hand side, under the incision where the surgeon did the work.  My family doctor said it's highly unlikely that I damaged anything by bending over.

I've noticed it is much worse a few hours after I eat; ever since I started the puree stage a few days ago, and really bad if I have any gas (TMI).  My doctor started me on Restorolax and I think that helps, but is it normal to feel pain in the left side with gas and possibly with food moving out of the pouch into the intestines?

The pain isn't all the time; only after I eat, and it gets worse if I lie down in a semi reclining position  It feels better after I use the ladies room (tmi).

Thanks,

Kathy

Sounds like constipation to me. I had the same before I started my regular restoralax regimen.  no issues since

Thank you. I hope that's what it is and that it passes soon.  It's so painful, and very freaky to feel the pouch area on the inside lie this.

You could have pulled a muscle when you bent down and since they do most of the work on that side, I found the inside took longer to heal than anywhere else, it was tender for a good month.  If you are constipated at all then the pain could be from that.  The colon has a sharp 90 degree turn right there on the left side just under the breast so if it's hard going through, it will hurt even more as it turns that corner, even gas trapped in there can hurt like hell as it passes on through.

Thanks.  The pain is lower down, below the big incision and my belly button, but to the left.

Hopefully it will heal soon.

Sorry to hear you are experiencing this pain. If it keeps up, perhaps make an appointment with your family doctor, or call you surgoen's office for advice.

I am not a doctor, but as people *****sponded earlier had mentioned constipation as a possibility, I was told by my old GP, that pain on the left side can be a sign of constipation, but like I said above, my advice is for you seek medical expertise if your pain does not get better soon.

Good luck! Feel better soon!!!!

Hi, thanks, Manda. I did see my doctor and he is the one who started me on Restorolax. I just wanted to know if it was normal for this to be so painful.

I get the odd pain myself Kathy, but nothing constant like you are describing.  Normally if I feel I have a gas bubble or a pain around my pouch area, I get up and start walking it off.  Eventually it subsides via a burp, a gurgle from my insides (meaining it's moving) or it just subsides.

Is it your Family Doctor or your WLC Doctors/nurses who put you on Restoralax?   My instructions were clear to me... anything out of the ordinary and I am to return to the ER immediately.

I really hope you can move past this soon my dear.

Wayne
