Questions RE: Dietitian

In a little over 2 weeks I meet the Dietitian for the first time. I think I have done really well, I have made a lot of changes and I do think I have a good understanding of the diet post-op (I have a band, and there are similarities) I have reviewed my notes a few times as well, and I have done a lot of research. I also am going to connect with a social worker through work - just to have someone to talk to as I continue this process.

Does everyone require a follow up with the dietitian, or can you "pass" at the first meeting? Just curious.

I passed my first time. However I did hear a lot have to go back a second time. Just know your info and follow the diet they gave you at thr nutrition class.

I was approved at the first meeting as well.  The dietician asked for examples of what I would eat at each food stage, so make sure you have a good understanding of the different approved options.  It was more of a conversation between us than a quiz - it was comfortable.  Good luck!

I looked at all of my appointments as a learning experience and not a test.  You learn more about the process and about yourself.  I came into this unsure if this would be the right tool for me to use.  After each appointment, I felt more sure, more committed and more educated.  I agree that it's a conversation with the dietician asking some questions and determining what you have learned, the changes you have made and your level of commitment.  They are helping us to succeed.  Be excited, not scared or concerned.  It's one more step towards healthy!

Good luck, although you won't need it.
