MEET THE SURGEON IN GUELPH
It's been a bit of a rollercoaster for me lately and I apologize in advance for being long-winded. I have just learned so much about the process and wanted to share.
I got a call last week saying that I had an appointment to meet the surgeon at TWH. I had asked for my file to be referred to Guelph as I was told that my surgery would probably not be booked until June and as I operate my own business, I knew I would have staffing issues for coverage in the summer months. So this phone call came as a surprise - I was expecting one from Guelph and now not TWH. I called the gal back at TWH, who told me my file was being sent to Guelph, and she said she would follow-up. I got an email back on Friday saying that her nurse manager had agreed to send it along to Guelph.
YESTERDAY, I got a phone message from Guelph asking me if I can meet with Dr. Bhojani THIS FRIDAY. Lorraine said it would be quicker in Guelph and numerous members have said the same thing, but this is unbelievable.
I will keep you posted. Marissa said that I will also have an appointment with the internist (unsure why) and she is scheduling that for me now. I am so thankful ... and still stunned!
This site is truly a God send as members share their own experiences, give advice and encouragement, and help newbies like me navigate the system.

Linda,
That is awesome!! That is the same surgeon I met with and was very comfortable with. Guelph returns calls after getting the files and when they have surgeons who are available you get a quick appointment.
Be prepared to start opti soon...remember I saw him one day and started opti the very next.
I am so happy for you and so glad you followed up wanting your file sent.
Again I can't be happier!!

This is super exciting!
I wanted to ask you a few questions RE: staffing issues. I am a coordinator of a youth Employment program that is funded by the government. If you wanted some support with staff- you should really look into partnering with Government Funded agencies who can find you a couple people who would come with funding to pay the wage. You would be surprised at the youth I work with - some with several degrees and diplomas. They have "barriers" or disabilities. But usually that is something invisible like anxiety or some other mental health issue, or a learning disability that is not recognizable. It is definitely something to look into if you feel like supporting social services :)
I can probably help you find an agency if I knew where you lived! I can promise you that the employers who support my youth (adults 30 years old and under) absolutely make a huge difference in their life!!
Sorry for the rant haha just thought if you needed staff that come with wage subsidy I could direct you to the right services :)

Many thanks. I've had the business almost 28 years and my staff member of 14 years left in September to help her husband with his veterinarian practice. I haven't hired anyone else because I'm thinking of selling and doing something else. I'm 54 and I haven't figured out what I'd like to do when I grow up (lol).
I appreciate your advice. My gal's going to come back if I have the surgery earlier and I won't have to worry about training - she just can't be there from May through to the fall. I have used a Georgian College program in the past and it was great. I hired two full-time staff and they have both gone on to have terrific jobs.
Thanks for your comments,
Linda

Thats awesome Linda! I have taken a queue from you, and called TWH to find out if my file can be transferred to Guelph. As I live in Mississauga at the 401 and Winston Churchill and would be easier for me to scoot across the 401 for surgery instead of at TWH. They are sending my file to the nurse who takes care of that at TWH and will have her call me when she is back in the office on Friday. So thanks for the insight, and hopefully I will be joining all of you quickly at Guelph :)

I also go through TWH but had my surgeon in Guelph. If you have an appointment with an internist it is likely because you have other conditions that you take medications for that need to be monitored. I was taking metformin for type 2 diabetes, as well as blood pressure and cholesterol medication that my internist was in charge of monitoring. I hope you get referred to Dr. Agerwal like I did as your internist. He is the kindest, most supportive doctor I have ever had the pleasure of dealing with.
Thanks Jubilee. It is Dr. Agarwal. I'm only on blood pressure medication for moderately high blood pressure that is easily controlled. Everything else is good. I'm strong and healthy, had only one surgery for my shoulder a year ago and don't have sleep apnea or anything else of concern. It is obviously in my best interest to go; I'm just not sure what flagged me. All is good and I'm so thankful.
