Is there a weight limit?

Hi there. I was told for RNY that your BMI had to be between 40 and 55. I think they do go a little outside of this range though meaning they won't deny surgery if your BMI is 39 or 56.

This BMI range might depend on the surgeon, mine was 64, and I had RNY. I was told though, if they went in and thought the sleeve was safer, that they would do that instead, so I signed consent forms for both.(rny was my first choice because I wanted malabsorption, not deal with risk of reflux, and the longer history and evidence I could find on it, but I would have been happy with either)

I have to say, if your brother does have rny, while it's important to know what can happen, it's important to keep those risks in perspective.  the majority of rny have no complications at all. In my case, I've never had food get stuck, thrown up, foamies  etc. and dumping happens in an estimated 30% of people.  I Haven't tried any sugar, 1 because I'm still in losing mode, 2. I have a sneaking suspicion I will be one of those who can tolerate sugar, and I'd rather not know haha!

Thanks for your insight! Does seem to vary between sites and probably surgeons what BMI they will do certain surgeries on. I guess my brother will had to find out on his journey what suits him, and what the doctors think work best.

Sure, my surgery was September 8, and as of this morning, I've lost 108lbs total.
