Revision confusion...frustrated!
I just finished my appointment with the nurse. She was lovely. However there has been some very recent changes to legislation and apparently no one knows if I am a revision or now what they are calling a conversion. I currently have a lap band. No one knows if I will be required to do additional testing or if I will be accepted at all, or if I will have to go through the entire program (which I am completely fine with). I thought today would give me some answers and additional appointments, but they would only schedule me to meet the doctor next month and nothing else. I really hope I am accepted to the program (with NO additional testing required as this will cause HUGE delays) I know I sound whiney, I assure you I am not - just feeling a bit defeated.
What hospital are you going through?? I am going through TWH, for a revision from VSG to RNY on Feb 13th. I had my VSG on July 20, 2015.. so I will be 1.5 years out when I get the RNY! In order for me to get the revision, I had to meet with the surgeon, but since I am apart of the Bariatric family for 5 years (when you have bariatric surgery, you are in their care for 5 years, and go for yearly checkups), it was easy for me.. the only additional testing I had to get, was a small bowel follow through and a barium swallow (because I have had issues in the past with having ulcers in my ileum and a possibility of Crohn's disease) .. those tests came back fine, except I have a small umbilical hernia, which they will fix in RNY surgery. I know for me, it took 2 months to see the surgeon, then another 2 months for me to get the tests done, and there is a HUGE backlog, so for me they couldn't even give me a date.. luckily for me, someone cancelled their surgery, so LUCKY!!!!! In all honesty, I think you will have to go through all the appointments, which is a good thing, cause it will prepare you for having surgery. It is a long process, but there are ways to make it shorter, like calling in for cancellations. Getting a sleep study done, to test for Sleep Apnea cause they can take a couple months to get done. Start a food journal, having 3 meals (good protein, veg, and a carb) a day with 2 snacks that are under 100 calories. Also cutting pop, and switching over to decaf coffee if you are a coffee drinker. Doing those things will make it sooo much quicker for you. You don't sound whiny at all, this forum is a place to vent, so get it all out. I assure you this is not the only time you will fee frustrated during this journey. Good luck!!! If you have any questions, post a reply on here or send me a private message!!!!

I fortunatelty do not require a sleep study! I definitely would love to go through the program, but because my original surgery was a lap band they have to accept me first (she said they have to speak to the manager at that site - Windsor) so fingers crossed that they let me go ahead. They said a few things could happen if I am accepted - I would be sent for surgery right away or I would go through the program

Everyone that I know that went from lapband to anything else had to go through the same program that those that never had WLS before. There is a member here with a band that is having surgery next month and they went through the whole program as well so unless something is new as in this month, it should be the same for you. Some surgeons will want to remove the band then let you heal and then go back in at a later date to do something else. Some surgeons remove and revise on the same date. Perhaps the nurse saying you may go for surgery right away could be that they are now removing the band immediately then you still carry on like a virgin person would. Be interesting to see what exactly has changed when you speak to the surgeon.
I have had my lap band for almost 4 years - I started the process to get it removed and get RNY Feb 2016. I am scheduled for surgery Jan 23 2017 :)
I am through TWH
I went through all the same steps as someone who hasn't had any surgery - however I may have gone through a bit faster - simply because I had already learned how to eat - what to eat - what not to eat etc... Which can be huge hurdles for someone.
I was transferred to Guelph - due to the backlog in TWH - and at that hospital - they won't do removal and revision in the same surgery - so they were going to do removal - then 4 to 6 weeks later - the RNY
I happily took a cancellation at TWH - where they do both in the same surgery :)
Keep us posted - I am interested to find out what they meant
Good luck - and your day will be here before you know it!
