Just joined, now what?

Now that my dear is the 1mil dollar question!  Obesity is a very complex matter for us humans.

As you will discover once you read many thoughts on this site is that WLS is only surgery on your body, not your brain. It is just a tool...a powerful one, but it gives us another resource in our health arsonal.

Welcome to the site. Honestly, joining this site is the very best thing you could have done after the referral. So much information and people who have been successful.

I live in Courtice and was referred to Toronto Western last February. Earlier this month, my file was transferred to Guelph- at my request- for surgery in order to speed up the process. I am having surgery at Guelph on Jan 12 and I'm very excited. 

My husband was also very reluctant about me having surgery but I realized he was scared. He's still nervous but definitely supportive. My 3 teens have been amazing. I have a long road ahead of me but it will be so worthwhile. 

Good luck- I would suggest requesting the referral as it's the best way to get all the information. Being referred doesn't mean you have to go ahead with it. You can change your mind but at least you will know you have all the facts. By the way, I'm also a "healthy" fat person- I'm having surgery to keep it that way.

How long is the hospital stay after the surgery?

Typically 3 days, 2 nights total.  I had my surgery on a Monday and was home midday Wed.  I had mine 9 weeks ago at TWH.

They told me 1-2 days. I'm very excited!
