Blood donation?
Hi friends! I've always donated blood but haven't in about a year. I am almost 7 months out and down over 100lbs! My question is - can we donate blood? We being post op WLS patients. I don't have any deficiencies and can't think of why we couldn't but wanted to check with the pros here :)
Thanks!
Nikki

At my 2 year anniversary appointment I asked about donating blood. At Guelph they tell us you can never give blood again but I thought since I'm 2 years out and stable, taking my vitamins regularly it could be ok. They said no. It's just to hard for us to replenish what we lose when we give blood.
Funny enough I had a really weird hypoglycemic day about 2 weeks ago. It hadn't happened to me for at least a year. I didn't think I ate or drank any differently than usually but my blood sugar was extremely low and I felt terrible for almost a whole day. I didn't feel better after drinking water, didn't feel better after a tuna and chick pea salad, didn't feel better after taking a gravol. What made me feel better was rice. I needed some carbs in a bad way. That day really reminded me how important it is to keep your diet and supplements balanced, timed right and complete. Giving blood would cause a real challenge to blood sugar, hemoglobin and hydration.
