I get a lot of headaches (not migraines, due to my vision issues) and I've tried all suggestions medicine wise to see if something else will work, and they don't. I don't know if that alone did it, but I do have an degenerative eye diease, that at this point is not treatable, and I don't want to elimate the possibility of down the road a treatment/cure comes along and it has anti inflammatories in it and I can't take it. Vision more important. There might be other things in my medical history that support this recommendation, but I think its my vision issues that sealed it for the doctor.
What center are you at?
I as also told at my center (windsor) we can choose Guelph and two other Toronto hospitals, that Guelph you'd have an easier time getting a vsg over Toronto, at least that's what they told me.
Good luck to you. I hope you too can get the VSG. I'm prepared to fight if my surgeon differs, but I think I have a good arguement for the VSG over the RNY.
May I ask where you are in the process? Not sure what Doctor you have in Windsor, I have Dr. Shaban, he is so nice!
If you haven't met the doctor yet, or you have a doctor follow up, discuss your concerns with him/her. If they recommend you for the VSG, than hopefully you shouldn't have any issues.
Good luck!
Discuss with your doctor when you see him/her that you want to have a VSG and why. He/she might agree with you then or may want to see if you can try other things for your pain.
I'll be honest, when I met the doctor the first time, he never mentioned anything about me using NSAIDS. It was the nurse I saw beforehand, that said I would need to talk to my family doctor about other options to get off them.
I did go to my family doctor. Options are very limited. Tylenol is basically what's prescribe, or Tylenol 2, but that has caffine in it, and your not suppose to have caffine during the first six months of surgery, so even if that worked, a problem for about six months. Tylenol 3 didn't even work on my headaches. The next step would be taking morphine, which I thought would be a bit extreme. I tried everything, I could try, and nothing would work. Alleve is my miracle drug lol
When I saw the Doctor this week for my follow up, I told him I tried everything, but also mentioned about my eye diease concerns, he was very supportive in recommending the VSG for me. I didn't have to 'fight' it with him to agree with me. I was a bit surprised, because in this program the RNY is pushed so hard, so I was pleasantly surprised how he was agreeable with me in regards to why I wanted to have the VSG over the RNY.
Don't worry if you don't get the answer you want the first time you see the doctor. After your have all your tests done and go through the process, he'll have a better picture of your situation.
Good luck, and let me know how things go.
