Average calorie intake post op
I agree we should get our protein from dense meat, but this early I don't know how realistic it is, for many of us. I feel it's more important to keep calories lower and hit protein targets at this point.

Try searching around a little more.
For example. Baked chicken has between 30 -46 calories per once plus 7 - 9 grams of protein and ZERO carbs
If you had 4 meals of 2 oz of chicken daily that would give you ( using the high end on calories and the low end on protein ) :
8 oz = 369 calories
0 carbs
54 grams of protein
ADD - 2 greek yogurts - roughly 60 calories and 8 grams each of protein and you achieved 70 Grams of protein and 489 calories. And you will be full
As time goes on you can add more meat to up your protein numbers. Use a bit of sauce/packaged gravy or low fat mayo to coat the chicken for ease of eating
So - do a bit more research for better food choices that maximize protein and minimize calories and carbs. You will thank me for this when you reach goal quickly
I'm 3 months post op and aim for about 500 calories a day with a minimum of 60 grams of protein. Some days it's closer to 600 calories, others 450. I also keep my carbs under 50. Usually under 20. The dietitians at my clinic told me I should be aiming for 1000 calories and 150 carbs.
Definitly do not eat back your calories from excersise.

At this point, I can tolerate most meats, and can usually eat 2-3 ounces at a time (pork, beef, chicken, tuna)Or, a scrambled egg with 1 ounce of meat. I can also tolerate tofu, so I will have that sometimes too.
I also have Greek yogurt or skyr as a snack.
Also, the carbs I eat usually come from things like lentils, beans, quinoa etc. which are also filling. And from veggies. And bran buds on my yogurt.
im also lucky that a protein shake for breakfast still keeps me full til lunch time. Its usually a chocolate premiere protein, sometimes with powdered peanut flour added.
you should check out the daily menu thread on the rny board. It will give you lots of ideas!

It's really drawn from the rny daily thread. I look at what the vets eat, and build my menu around that. The other thing I see mentioned often is 1g of protein for every 10 calories consumed. I find this a good guide for planning my day. Not everyone is able to eat this low carb, which is fine. I'm paraphrasing, but Dr. yoni freedhoff said something basically like, your goal should be to eat the minimum number of carbs you can to be a sane, happy healthy person. My goal is to find a minimum I can sustain long term.
