Hi Kathy!

It was nice to meet someone who had even the same surgery as me. I'm not sure how they place everyone after surgery as I was coming to in the recovery room there was another woman who has just been brought in from surgery and I had heard them giving report that she too had the same surgeon, was supposed to have the bypass but ended up with the sleeve, I had hoped I'd run into her in the hallways while walong but I never did. I ran into the fellow I befriend on the second last day, I'd have assumed bariatric patients would be genre rally in the same area and I walked the halls several times a day and there were mostly elderly patients and non looking like they had WLS.

I was discharged this morning and left as scheduled for my 12:15 train. I am located about 4 hours from Toronto. so after a trip to get a few things and get my scripts filled out I finally made it home at about 6 and of course had a slew of people coming in and out to see me for the next few hours.

Though I'm much more comfortable in my own home, wearing my own pj's I still have the same annoying pain when I sip anything and it will happen randomly even when not sipping. the best way to describe it is like a contraction. My upper abdomen gets really tight then I get a stabbing pain and then it subsides. as I got in later then I though my Appointment with my family doctor was rescheduled until next week. I am not wanting to move to full liquids until I can take in clear liquids without difficulties. despite the pain which isn't as severe as it was the first 3 days, though enough to make me brace myself when they happen, I keep sipping.

I was  initially told I had to stay local for 2 days after my surgery butt as I was in hospital for 2 extra days I asked if I was cleared to go home and they said yes so I did. I'm not sure if you're happy with your rate or the hotel you have booked but I had called about 20 different hotels local to St Michaels and asked for medical or compassionate rates, everyone was quoting me $169 and up but the Chelsea Hotel on Gerrard gave me a medical rate of $135/night. though I only got to enjoy it for a few hours, I was very impressed with the hotel. Felt like a 5 star to me. We were on the 18th floor, I'd never been on the 18th floor of anything in my life. Not all rooms have a fridge and I requested one upon arrival and they brought one in free of charge. Shame I didn't get to enjoy the 2 days there...but I'm glad to be home ans if I ever find myself in Toronto again, I'll be staying there!

Thanks for the support, I truly appreciate it

Hi Cindi,

I'm so glad you made it home safely, and that you have your loved ones stopping by to check on you.  I hope the train ride wasn't too painful.

How weird that they didn't keep the bariatric patients together; I wonder why they didn't?

It's funny how all of the different centers have different rules, etc.  I was told i had to stay in the area for 5-7 days after surgery.

Your hotel sounds lovely; it's too bad you didn't get to use it more.  Thanks for letting e know about it. I've already booked a place but if I need to leave for any reason it will be nice to know there's a  nice hotel in the area.

I wonder what is causing the contraction-like feelings?  Is warm clear liquid better than cold, did you notice?  I guess everything is still raw inside and it will take awhile for things to heal.  I'm not great with pain and plan to take pain meds if I need them (if they give me some, that is).

Two of my friends in town had roux en y surgeries; one said she felt like she wa**** by a bus and felt terrible for the first two weeks, to the point where she regretted having surgery and thought she had totally ruined her life...but she got slowly better physically and as the pain diminished, so did her thoughts about the surgery.  Now over a year and a half later and over 120 something pounds lighter, she says she only regrets not having the surgery sooner.   The other, who had open surgery due to a hernia, which you'd think would be worse,  had very little pain and was up walking the first night. She stopped taking the pain meds after the first night too. I guess it is different with everyone.

I'm happy to offer support, and truly hope you will feel more comfortable every day.  Add me as a friend and message me if you like.

Take care,

Kathy

I am so sorry you are having a rough go of it.  That sounds very discouraging, but try to hope for the best.  I felt a million times better getting home and resting in my own bed.  Here is hoping that that helps.

Once you are home are you far from a hospital?  Just worried if you get dehydrated again.  Hopefully your doctor will take more of an interest in your throat, that sounds highly unpleasant.

Once you start to heal this likely will all seem like a bad dream ;)
