Guelph Research
hi all,
i'll be done all of my appointments at TWH by end of January and then just have to wait for my surgeon appt. I've been reading that could now take 4-5 months unless you are willing to go to Guelph.
I'd like to learn more about their pre-surgical process, their surgeons and their post surgical processes before I let anyone at TWH know i'd be willing to switch.
Anyone with any suggestions on how to do that without actually going all the way to Guelph would be much appreciated :)
thanks!

I recently switched to Guelph
So far I have to see the surgeon there - Dec 16th - because I already have a Lap Band - I have to have that removed in January - then I will have my RNY in February (TWH said earliest I would get in there is late March)
I have heard wonderful things about Dr Reed (there are only 2 surgeons there) and he has been doing the surgeries since 1989 (or 1998) sorry can't remember :)
You don't have to do Optifast at Guelph - they have their own dietary program which is Carnation Breakfast with Protein added.
They are all super nice there so far - I have spoke to Lori a lot and the receptionist.
That's all I know at this point

Not sure where you got the information of no Optifast at Guelph but that is incorrect. There are a few exceptions to the rule (due to allergies) but Optifast is required. In fact, it is stricter at Guelph with no vegetables allowed at all vs. Hamilton.
People are generally on it for 1 to 4 weeks, depending on the Surgeons recommendations.
I got it from Guelph when I spoke to Lori on Tuesday this week. She said I could do optifast or Slimtime if I wanted but they have their own diet program which was carnation instant breakfast shakes with added protein. Not sure where you got your info or how old it is but mine is 2 days old. Maybe it depends on the patient.

This newsletter is brand new-wish I had this before entering the program. It summarizes everything well.
