Pre-surgery, I tried really hard to follow the bariatric diet as well. I couldn't maintain the super low post-surgery calories, but I could keep them at 1200 per day, and I really held myself to it. I also needed a lot more bulk to keep from feeling like I was starving. I would serve everything on a bed of spinach. For breakfast, I would scramble eggs with Tabasco on spinach. Lunch at work? Lean Cuisine Sweet Sriracha Beef on a bed of spinach. Dinner? A small portion of whatever on spinach.
Granted, I doubt I could keep it up long-term, but in two months I lost 30 pounds doing this. And I'm glad I started my weight loss before surgery so that I feel like I'm getting the most from the honeymoon.
