Question for Northern Ontario patients

Hi Everyone,

I was wondering, for those of us who have to (or had to) stay in Toronto for several days after surgery, how did you manage your liquid diet in the hotel?  Do you just bring our protein powder and milk and jello, etc, and keep it in the little mini fridge?  Are there any pre-made liquid proteins that work OK?

Just wondering what people did or plan to do in the hotel before we can return home.

Thanks,

Kathy

I haven't had my surgery yet but will in two weeks today!  From what I've read so far the first couple days you don't feel like eating much anyways but it is important to keep up hydration so water and little sips all day is the key.  I read in one posting that don't bring too much food with you at all.   I think your stay in the hotel is only for possible issues that could arise due to the surgery.  Probably just best to have the quiet time, rest up, drink fluids and start to get moving.  Looking forward to other responses on this from people who have already had surgery :)

Good luck Kathy!

Premier Protein (that you can buy at Costco, chocolate or vanilla...my preference is chocolate) is so handy post-op. You don't have to mix anything up...it's pre-made. Bring a case of that with you for the week you stay in Toronto along with some little plastic medicine cups. I ended up drinking 1-2 of these little cups of protein drink every 15 minutes along with 1-2 of water. (I never thought I'd see the day I'd sip from a shot glass!) Of course, it's hard to stick to that schedule when you doze off but it helps you to stay hydrated and get protein in during those first few days.

Good luck!

Thank you so much, Tammy!  We don't have a Costco here in the Sault, but I"m sure there will be one in Toronto so I'll go a day early and get some when I'm there; thanks.  Great idea about the mini cups as well.

If you have a GNC there, you can get the premade Total Lean Shake.  Similar stats to Premier and taste better in my opinion.  You likely won't need too many for a few days as many people struggle to drink 1 per day along with the water.

We do have a GNC.  I'll go get a few (if I can buy them individually).  Thanks so much!  So glad I won't have to mix shakes in a hotel, lol.

Ours have a few they sell by the bottle but they also come in 4 packs so not a ton in case you don't like.  A 4 pack will likely last you the whole time you are gone.  I really like the strawberry one and the banana one.  I have had all the flavours and they are all good but just some I preferred more than the others.

Thanks, Tracy.  I make banana smoothies now so I'll probably love the banana one too.  I've had the stomach flu for over a week now but as soon as I'm better I'm going to go buy some so I can taste them and know what i'll like before the surgery.
