Good afternoon,

I just got referred to the WLC at Civic.

I have a couple of questions ;

How long does it take in Ottawa to actually get the surgery? I was told by my family dr about 2 years, is it true?

I am on a regular pain killers due to my back problems and meds for reflux, my dr said she doesnt think I can have a RNY due to malabsorption part of it, but at the same time she says that the Ottawa Centre hates VSG and its nearly impossible to get sleeved in Ottawa.

How to get approved for the VSG? Any ideas?

Thanks

From actual referral to surgery which was 5 weeks ago - it took 12 months.  Your surgeon will determine the type of surgery you require and not your family physician.  And yes they do VSG in Ottawa.

Good luck on monday :). May I please ask  why your dr said VSG is not a good option?

I have the same issue with acid reflux and I am on medication however my doctor said the sleeve is not recommended. I will have the RYN.

A sleeve can cause increase in reflux. That being said I have reflux for about 30 yrs. Had RNY 5 yr ago. Still need my Prevacid but symptoms better controlled

I'm in Ottawa. Are you going through BMI? From referral to surgery date (in Nov this year) about 7 months for me.

(surgery - Nov 4)

I wonder why some go through BMI and some don't. My family dr. Referred me and I went through BMI.

Hi, im new to the forum and just got referred to the BMI clinic. I was told that I could be referred back to the Civic if I wanted, but I was happy to not have to search for parking for pay the parking costs at the Civic. Did you like going through BMI? My husband went through Civic and loved it, but I haven't heard much about peoples experience through BMI.
