Hello everyone!

Happy Thanksgiving!  i had my orientation last week at twh and i hgot all my three appointments!  I'm pretty excited about the process.  in the orientation the nurse said plan on taking 4 weeks off work...so i'm wondering what are some of the reasons people have said for taking the time off?  it's not that i have anything to hide but i really just don't want to tell work people and i don't want to lie either...anyone have any suggestions on a professional way to notify work without all the details?

When people asked I said "woman's surgery" then quickly changed the subject. I justified it in my mind by saying to myself I'm a woman and I'm having surgery. Of course everyone else thinks it's gynaecological surgery. Lol

Not many asked me - just said they hope I feel better.

Good luck!

I simply told them that I needed surgery.  My Doctor's note said that I would be off for 6 weeks for a surgical procedure.  I sent my insurance forms (which have details) direct to the carrier so work didn't see them.  Nobodies business unless you want it to be.

Depending on employers you don't have to give them any reason. Bring in md note stating having surgery and off for x amount of time. My employer has an outside group that deals with health insurance and had to submt forms to them for approval. Kept confidential from employer.

I told them I was having my gallbladder removed. Wasn't a lie cause I had it done at the same time but it's a good one. The procedure requires the optifast too so that helped to explain that. I like the "woman surgery" idea too.

I told my immediate boss that I was having gastric bypass

the closer I got to my date, next Monday by the way, the more comfortable I became about sharing. My thinking is what if someone in my surroundings is thinking about it, well w, they will have someone to talk to :)

I didn't tell anyone at work.  I was on sick leave for 4 weeks and my medical note stated that I was getting a medical procedure.  I am a private person.

I have told my boss and a few coworkers.  Once my surgery is all approved and set i may tell a few others .

I'm lucky and work a desk job and can work from home. I don't plan on being completely off work for too long because I'll just work from home and take it easy.

My boss is super supportive.  Thankfully.
