Orientation Date!

My referral was sent in yesterday and I officially have my orientation date...

Looking WAY further ahead...is the clinic you have your orientation at, the place of surgery? The reason I ask, is that when I look on Windsor's website is says they do the Band, and Bypass, but no mention of gastric sleeve.... but after carefully reviewing everything, I think Gastric Sleeve is a better option for me.

Windsor is also MUCH further away from me, compared to the other clinics, so just out or curiosity. Nonetheless, I am so grateful for my orientation!

I can't speak to whether Windsor performs the gastric sleeve surgery, but it generally isn't covered as a 1st resort by OHIP, unless there are other medical reasons why RNY isn't suitable.

Windsor does not perform the surgery.  They do the pre-op screening visits and when you are cleared for surgery you go to either Toronto or Guelph for surgery.

The surgeon chooses what surgery you will have so its not as arbitrary as picking for yourself. But if you have medical reasons and rationale they will sometimes do VSG over RNY. It's my understanding that's it's typically RNY.

I am having a revision from the band...so I am not sure if bypass is possible. 

I am a little scared or bypass, I don't know if that fear is realistic or not. 

From what I know - they do not recommend the sleeve after the band - because they are basically the same - they will recommend RNY - I also have the band - and that is what I have read and what I have been told - however once they are in there - they may have no option but to do the sleeve - because it is better then the band - but you won't see great results.

I have heard such different views. Some people say the Sleeve did for them what the band did not and was suppose to do. And heard lots of success with the sleeve. I know with either surgery, success is relative to lifestyle changes.

in ontario at any clinic wether windsor or not they you will only do the sleeve if medically needed. otherwise everyone gets rny.

im super excited. i got my latter in the mail on friday for my orientation at humber river oct 18th 2016.

Can anyone tell me what to expect from here on out? ie: how long i have to wait, what i should be doing to prepare, if there is an easier way to find people in my area who are going through the same thing.

Also, i had the band for a few years, but i had to have an emergency operation to get it out- it was literally killing me. I am about1 yr with out anything and have gained a lot of weight back. Ive been reading some of the comments here, is it true they will only do rny? Im really set on the sleeve.
