Anyone on here had or going to have a revision?
I don't think a lot of doctors do, however I was hooked up with St. Joesph's in Hamilton. Dr. Hong (excellent surgeon) does them in one step if possible, he was recommended by the staff in the program. He was able to do mine in one step, despite the extensive scar tissue. One of the attending OR doctors told me "only Dr. Hong could have done that". The recovery was longer, but I had a couple of extra incisions (due to scar tissue) and bypass is major surgery. Also, a few years older. I'm not sure where you live, where would you be having surgery?
Can you give me an idea of the timeline?
I am looking to have my band removed and revised (I am in London, Ontario) my doctor said they would need to find a doctor willing to do it.
I am still waiting for the referral to be sent (not sure what the hold up is on my doctors part) But I would love to know what the timeline looked like for you? Thank you
Your doctor doesn't need to find a surgeon to do the revision, as he doesn't sent a referral to the hospital/surgeon. He has to fill it out on line (only) on the Ontario Bariatric site and they accept or deny you, then send it to the (usually) nearest bariatric centre of excellence. There are four: Hamilton, Ottawa, Toronto and Guelph. I know someone from London who was referred to Hamilton, so that would probably get you Dr. Hong. So, please please, get your doctor to send the referral in immediately. He can do it with you right in his office and off it goes. It's the only thing he has to do or is responsible for. My referral was sent in March/15 and I called St. Joe's in April. They gave my the next orientation date on May 4th and then I was oart of the process. When your referral has arrived at the hospital, you have already been approved as Ontario Bariatric approves you before sending it on.
Your doctor probably thinks he has to refer you to a specialist as they do with most other things, but not so in this case. So, as soon as you can get an appointment to do the form on line, the sooner you will be on your way. The site will also let your doctor know he only has to fill the referral out with them.
Let me know how it goes, I'm excited for you!
No, she doesn't need your Slimband info. Dr. Hong didn't even ask me who did my surgery until I was on the OR table, and the clinic didn't need them either during the pre-op period of different tests. He said he has taken out lots of bands. Sigh. The only form your MD has to do is the only on line with you.
