Had all three appointments earlier this week....overwhelmed
I had my doctor, social worker, and nutrition class on Tuesday. Initially this was not set up this way, was suppose to have nutrition class and social worker in mid August, but the social worker wasn't going to be there, and since I'm out of town I want to clump at least 2 of the three appointments together. When I was told I could do all three on the day I had orginally had my doctor visit booked I thought great.
Everyone was nice there, but overwhelmed with all information.
And with that I have a question regarding Social Work homework (I'm going through Windsor, I'm guessing home work is the same through all centers...but dunno).
I was told I had to journal three times a week, and at the end of it I'm suppose to put a positive self talk message. Is that every entry or a week prior to my next appointment? I noticed in between the journalling and talk of the self talk entry that theres a part that they want you to journal about a week before you next social worker visit about how you've felt during the process and the changes .... and then after that its part B about self talk. So now I'm confused or overthinking if the self talk entries are just for the last week or the entire time your journalling? Anybody can give me an answer to that I'd greatly appreiciate it!!!
I know the nutrition class they said they expect you to lose weight, or at least not gain any weight, which makes sense...but did anyone have the doctor they see ask you to lose weight for when you see them again?
Could be the norm, or because I gained 4 lbs since my NP appointment in June. Probably didn't help had 3 family bdays in five days leading up to this appointment, too much eating out and celebrating.
Which also leads me to my next issue...anyone whose been at this stage or at this stage now still struggle with making positive changes.
I know I need to cut out the junk in general. I am drinking way more water than I'm use to, and cutting down pop, which I want to elimate in the near future. I had given up pop for a while, and then I gave in. I feel at this stage there's a bit more pressure on you, which is good, but I don't always do well with pressure. I so want to succeed in this journey, but right now I feel like I'm failing.
Any advice or suggestions.
Hi there,
In my journaling I put one positive statement in each week.
I was not asked to lose weight before my next appointment with the doc. I suspect it is likely because you have gained weight.
Well I'm sure the birthday celebrations didn't help, however, and I'm going to be honest here, that's just an excuse. You need to get your head in the game now to make it easier for you later!
Start with little things, as you said, cut out the pop! Cut back on breads, potatoes, rice, pasta, crackers....all simple carbs. Start adding protein snacks to your day. You'd be surprised how the small changes will add up to success with the scale.
You're definitely not failing, you're just getting started. Start journaling your food as well. Be accountable for what's going in your mouth!
We all struggle, but we all strive to make a better decision the next time.
You're on information overload right now. Take a deep breath, re-read your info, and make a plan.
You've got this! Good luck!

My 70 year old dad , is obese and diabetic. Though I am strict about his exercises , I never interfere in his diet or say his food interests. I feel like it would be unfair of me to restrict him. But getting him to do exercise in itself is very challenging. With aging he is becoming more adamant and I literally fight with him every single day to get his exercise done. He is aware of the fact that he is overweight and diabetic , yet I this duelling story continues. Recently his health has been deteriorating and mom herself is finding it difficult to help dad. I have no other option than to rely on some assisted living facilities like, Prestige Care, bridgewood. No idea how far things will work and how things will be in a few months time. There are times when I feel weary and tired. Hoping for the best. How do you people get your parents do the exercise without any hindrance? Do I need to be strict on his diet? All suggestions welcome.
I was asked to lose weight and I hadn't gained from my GP referral to my dr's appt. I saw the Doc the first time in April and because i'm just 'good' at losing when I want (problem is keeping it off) I made him give me a number. He said 10lbs before I saw him again in August. He was very happy that I lost 30 and had zero problems referring me for surgery and I'm waiting for a date. :)
