Optifast Reimbursed
Hiya!
Well I sent off my $293.16 receipt for OptiFast and a copy of the prescription to Sun Life Financial, our insurance carrier, who has reimbursed me for the full amount. Yay!
If you are insured, it is definitely worth checking to see if your plan will cover the cost.

We don't have a Health Care Spending account, it was just regular insurance. It took about two weeks. I submitted it on August 9 and we received the confirmation email that the claim was processed today, a 16 day turn around. I logged into their portal and saw that the full amount was covered. I actually logged in yesterday, and several times over the last couple weeks to check the status, but didn't see anything, not even in the Pending claims. It was worth the wait. :)

Hi!
It was the surgeon. During my surgeon meeting, she filled out a prescription, which looks completely like regular prescriptions which she signed and dated:
"Optifast 900 x 4 shakes/day for 3 weeks"
I filled the prescription at the front desk when our meeting concluded. They returned the copy of the prescription to me along with a receipt (and the copies of both I used when I submitted my claim to Sun Life). They actually wrote on the prescription:
"Pt rec'd 3 wks on July 27/16" along with their initials.
I carried a big box labeled OPTIFAST all the way across The Civic Hospital campus to the parking lot. It wasn't that I was embarrassed, though maybe a little bit, but unbeknownst to me someone in my family who works at the hospital saw me carrying it and I figure they have put two and two together, though my mother-in-law, who does know what is going on, told them I was getting my gallbladder removed (which is true along with the RNY). I just planned to keep my RNY surgery to myself, and a couple of close family members, until afterwards and then share after the fact with anyone interested. I just forgot how small Ottawa can be. hehe

There wasn't a DIN number on the prescription. If one is absolutely required by Sun Life then I think whoever looked at my request added it on their end.
