Question About OHIP And Loose Skin

Greetings!

My brother is a lawyer and he stated that if excess skin causes other health problems, then the plastic surgery is medically necessary and, by law, covered by OHIP.

I know people have talked about OHIP only covering a panniculectomy, but I was curious if anyone ehere has had OTHER skin removed and covered by OHIP because it was deemed to be medically necessary ala rashes, pus, infection, ripped skin, etc.

I would appreciate any feeback on this.

Thanks!

Check with your surgeon. While I was sitting in my surgeons office a couple weeks ago I overheard a lady saying that she asked and our surgeon refers you to a plastic surgeon and they eill cover the lower belly (apron) and the upper arms. I'm hoping that is true.

Sorry to say that they only cover the panni if medically justified, and breast reduction...again, if medically justified.  They do not cover upper arms!

What my lawyer brother is saying is that if hanging skin from your thighs for example is causing further health problems and your doctor agrees that it is indeed an issue, by law - OHIP HAS to cover the cost to remove hanging skin from your thighs.

Maybe people here didn't know that and just assumed that only a panni is covered and never bothered to bring up any other skin issue they may be having. But again, it has to be medically justified.

Many people have successfully received OHIP coverage for panni and breast reduction. Do a search and you'll find good info. Keep in mind OHIP covers what is medically necessary and there's a difference between skin removal and plastic surgery to look good (ie panni vs tummy tuck).

You would be hard pressed to justify a medically necessary thigh lift or brachioplasty.

Would a breast reduction deal with excess skin in the breast area?  I'm well endowed (lol) and have heard some horror stories.

Losing the regain! I got this!

The only people that I have seen get surgery beyond a panni and breast reduction covered by OHIP have been those who have lost in excess of 300 lbs.

Like others have said, I have also been approved for paniculectomy and breast reduction. As i understand, it's very difficult to prove health issues for arm or thigh skin.
