So I got my date

And I am excited but a bit sad at how long away it is!  Dec 5th.  Work is NOT going to be pleased with me missing the Xmas chaos.  We do some customer support but we also are corporate support for all our franchises.  Gah.  I wonder what the chances of someone cancelling is. Or maybe I should ask them to postpone till Jan?  Though the idea of being on Opti over the holidays sounds horrid :D

Thoughts?

Hi congrats. I am with you on the having to wait 4 months for surgery, I seen the surgeon July 22nd and got a date of Nov 25th. I requested to be put on a cancellation list and am hoping to get a sooner date. If you are not on the list you can call them and ask to be added to it.

Best wishes.

TWH does not have cancellation list. One way to look aat it is either way you wont be eating Christmas sweets. You can call them every so often and ask for earlier date.

Both the surgeon and the nurse(?)  Said they did.  Both suggested I ask for a cancellation date in case one shows up.

Did you have Sharon as the nurse for the surgeon appointment? She is very nice and helpful, she told me that they are looking to open up more surgery days and should that be approved they will contact people on the cancellation list too. I am keeping my fingers crossed hoping for a sooner date :-)

It is ok to postponed however, you risk the chance of having to wait many months eg. like 8 months.  This happened to someone I know.

They told me I could ask for later date and at this point it would be in January, though If I waited it would be longer.

No hurt in asking if there is a date in January. I was offered a May and June date but asked if there was a July date so that I could finish work (I'm off for the summer anyway). Just let them know you will keep your date but was wondering if there was anything in January due to work.

Good luck!

If your only hesitation is work, I say put yourself first and do not postpone the road to health to suit others.  You have a medical reason to be off.  You can go on a cancellation list.  Wouldn't it be great to start a brand new year with the surgery behind you and the losing track in front of you?  You have a lot of notice to give your employer a ton of time to find a solution to the shortfall of staff.  Just my two cents.

I'm about a month late with this response but thought I'd chime in anyways.  I had to postpone my surgery.  I had my date Nov. 2014.  Then my brother announced his wedding in Mexico.  My surgery date was 6 days prior to his wedding.  So uhm no.  I called the office (HRRH) and got another date.  It was Feb 2015 (I think) but unfortunately my support system was away.  So I finally got the date of Friday the 13th of March 2015.  It seemed so far away from my original surgery date.  But like everything time always passes.  And the way I looked at it I got to do everything!

In my office there is no good time to take off work.  I took the full 6 weeks.  At the end of the day, it is up to you.  It's OK to postpone.  But it's also OK to put yourself first and keep your Dec. 5th date.  Work won't change it will always be there.
