Ontario Sleevers?
To answer your question, yes what you are learning is the same lifestyle for the sleeve. Protien first, chew well & mindful, limit carbs and stay clear of the refined white carbs.
I you want to see what sleevers are eating, go to the VSG forum and look at a few "what are you eating today". The only difference is sleevers don't typically dump but some occasionly do.
Ontario (Ottawa) sleever here. I had my surgery almost two years ago.
No complications. Lost 140 lbs with about 5-7 lbs regain. I run regularly. I was slack over Christmas but I'm definitely back on track. And Omigosh, how life has changed! In fact, I'm going on Monday with my Husband to the clinic in Ottawa as he attends his own orientation class! (He wants the same success and energy that I now am experiencing.)
It's an amazing ride. It truly is. But you are right, there are not many sleevers in Ontario as RNY is still classified as the gold standard. I think it's time they looked at the VSG stats too; problem is, they don't have that many of us to collect stats from.

Oh gosh, WHEN did I feel like I had more energy? Probably after I lost 50-60 lbs or so. I mean, lugging around 303 pounds wasn't fun. It's hard. (Though GREAT for bone density apparently!) While I went to the gym even at 303 lbs, exercising did absolutely nothing for me. I didn't lose a pound. With PCOS and hypothyroidism, it was hella hard. So really, until I hit around 250 or so, my energy levels remained static but I definitely noticed an increase as I moved into the less than 250 range. I don't know when it happens though. If it's a percentage of weight loss? Or when you hit a point that you find it just easier to move more? Or maybe just a motivator to get out there and do something? I'm not sure. But that was my personal experience.
Fantastic that your clinic is doing more VSG surgery. I see that the USA is really seeing excellent successes with VSG and is opting for them on an ever increasing basis. I don't see the same thing with Canadian clinics yet though. Next week, I will attend an orientation session here in Ottawa with my husband, as he is starting the process himself. I will know more then about what they are saying for RNY vs. VSG surgery. Should be interesting!
