Timelines and preparation

Hi there, I'm new to this site and have only begun the journey to wls.  I have been reffered to the Hamilton Bariatric Ciinic and went to my orientation June 15,2015, and haven't heard anything back since.  I'm wondering if anyone would share their experience of how long it will be until the next step in the process (appointments)  I'm a little nervous that my information may have fallen into the cracks.  In the meantime I have been working on making small changes in my life style that will support life after wls such as journaling my food intake as well as my feelings, lowering my carb intake, increasing my protein intake, and trying to incorporate a small amount of activity in each day.  Is there anything else I should be doing in preparation?  Your thoughts/experiences would be greatly appreciated.

I am with Toronto Western clinic --- they handed us sheets with a series of appointments set up at orientation. Hamilton may do it differently, but I think you should call them about this. Sounds like you are on the right track -- if you aren't doing it already, work on getting 1.5 - 2 litres of water in daily.

Thanks for sharing your experience. It seems Toronto may do things a little differently or perhaps has more surgeons/surgeries and can keep up with the demand better than Hamilton Clinic

i wish you all the best in your journey!!

Hey Tiffanie

Welcome to OH !!

I also went through Hamilton.  There doesnt seem to be many of us here on this forum.  My orientation was June 2014 and my first appts weren't until May 2015....surgery in July.  It's a long haul for sure.  I would definitely call there and inquire what's been going on.  They are nearly impossible to get by phone....leave a message and someone will get back to you.

Sounds like you are off to a good start with the things you have been doing so far.  The only thing I would suggest is to get any tests out of the way that you could do now, to save time later.  If you have to wait for scopes or sleep labs ect ....it will delay you once you start the appointments.  Once you get to appointments  ...things move really fast if you have all your required tests completed.  My surgery would have been sooner, I was delayed a month waiting for a scope and the results.

I had a good experience at that clinic.  Staff was nice and helpful ..but the waiting IS painful!!!   Stay on them!!!

Thanks so much for sharing your experience. It is reassuring to know that the process is quicker once you have the appointments. I will definately take your advice about getting! testing done ahead.

Hi, I would definitely give them a call. I had my surgery done in Hamilton. I had my orientation on October 9, 2014 but didn't hear from them from them for almost a year. I finally called them and then everything seemed to move at light speed. I had already had a sleep test done. They then scheduled my endoscopy and colonoscopy and h pilori test for the end of September. I had all my appointments, including meeting Dr Anvari done by the beginning of November and my surgery on December 2, 2015. I wish I had called sooner to get the ball rolling. The staff there have been very good.

I'm also with Hamilton. I was waiting almost a year from orientation to first app (orientation nov 2014 first app nov 2015), since then app are moving pretty fast, as of today Im almost done, just surgeon left. One thing I didn't like- all my app were separately I didn't get the trio app, the wait time between was around 2 weeks plus ultrasound, gastro ecg and blood work
