How fast does weight come off?

I am just curious as to how people found the weight to come off post surgery? I am 17 days post op and everything seems to be going ok.  The pain is getting better I am moving around great and eating between 700-900 calories a day.  Well I have never hit a total of 900 but close.  I know this is going to be a gradual process to lose weight but I was losing weight on optifast than I am now.  I am still thankful for what I have lost as I feel better with just that little bit off but I was expecting to lose maybe a pound a week?  This is why I never weighed myself before when I would go to the. Gym or try a new diet because I become obsessed with the the scale and its soooo hard to not wake up every morning excited to get on the scale to see if it's even moved just slightly.  I haven't lost anything since Friday last week.  My meals have been pretty much the same for breakfast oatmeal with a tbsp of peanut butter, lunch protein shake, dinner 1 scrambled egg with hot sauce and shredded cheese and snack is activists Greek yogurt and glass of milk.  Any suggestions if I am doing something wrong? I have the green light to start puréed next week but I honestly enjoy this phase and what I have been eating I don't have any problem making my 60g of protein. Thanks in advance for any and all support/ suggestions/encouragement

First off at the top of the page there is a search feature, search "3 week stall" it is very common after surgery your body just went threw major surgery and is healing right now the first few weeks you're likely losing inches and not to many pounds.  Take your scale and hide it and pull out a measuring tape and measure yourself every week and watch the inches come off.  Stop obsessing over the scale you will drive yourself absolutely bonkers. I am almost 6 months post op and i lose on average 1-3 pounds a week but the inches that i have lost is crazy (just an idea from 54 inches on my hips down to 41 last week) Only weigh yourself once a week or once a month.  SOme people find it helpful the first few months to only weigh yourself at dr's appointments and follow ups.

I was lucky if i got 500-600 calories in at 17 days post op. I know everyone is different and everyone's pouches are made at different sizes and healing times vary.  I physcially couldn't get anymore in at that early out.   I am almost 6 months post op and I am lucky if i get 900 a day right now.  What i have found is i need to eat approx ever 2-3 hours even if its just a light snack like a cheese string, a fruit, etc..   In no way am I saying you are doing to much i just could not imagine getting that much in at that early out.  As long as you're hitting your protein goals 60-80 grams you shouldnt worry to much about the calories right now.  As you heal and you're able to move around more you'll start noticing the changes in your body.

I added unflavoured protein powder into everything i ate even in greek yogurt and cottage cheese, that early out and wa****ting close to 80 grams of protein a day, as you change food stages you'll be able to choose more dense protein options, i use source greek yogurt and cottage cheese alot still because they're high in protein and i like them.  Maybe trying to up your protein will boost your weight loss just hang in there it will get so much better i swear :)

First of all, 17 days out and eating 700-900 calories per day is just WAY TOO MUCH.  Are you sure you are eating this much?

Your nerves have been cut during surgery so you wont 'feel' the right sense of fullness for about 3 months.  Are you measuring and weighing your food.

I mean this seriously and sincerely - this is just way way too much consumption.

At 17 days out, most are around the 300 to max 600 calories per day range.  Most fall into the 4-500 calories per day and stay at that amount for a number of months.

I agree with Northerngal re stalls and likely your body is just taking a break - but I found it hard to get to that point in your post as I was so astonished at your calorie count.

At this point losing weight is almost foolproof.  You will lose regardless of your eating.  This is also the most wonderful period of high loss so I recommend taking advantage of it.  Keep to high protein foods - that should really be all you need for awhile - that and your water.

Please reassess your meal plan - personally I would ditch the peanut butter and the oatmeal unless you are having difficulty digesting more solid proteins

I wish you good luck - you just really surprised me eating 900 calories or so and only getting 60 grams of protein in.

My center told me to aim for that count so thats why i am trying to get it in all i eat is almost 1 package of oatmeal in the morning then a premier protein shake for lunch 1 egg scrambled for dinner and a greek yogurt cup and glass of milk for the day i usually get between 60-70g of protein and my calorie count as per my fitness pal is 700. I dont feel hungry any of the time but i know i need to eat something now everyone has me worried i am doing something very wrong....ugh this is frustrating

I assure you I am not advocating going against your center.  Maybe I am the only one who thinks this is too many calories 2-4 weeks post op.

No i appreciate the feedback i asked at my one week post op how many calories to aim for and thats what the nurse said however i am going to call tomorrow and clarify.  I am not sure what to cut out or try differently i am only eating 3 "meals" a day and 1 snack but i am trying to choose foods or liquids high in protein so today i had a shake for breakfast and one for lunch then i will have a yogurt for dinner and glass of milk before bed and that is 510 calories so maybe i will try this and see.  Its just hard to know if your doing things right when i have no idea if im hungry.  I just thought i would do breakfast lunch supper and snack and see how it goes but maybe i will try to revamp my meal choices

When I had surgery the goal was to lose all of the excess weight and an additional 20 pounds to allow for Bounceback regain.

What is your weight loss goal?  Some centers are satisfied if you lose 60% of the excess weight.  That may be why you are told to eat so many calories early out.  It took me about six months to get to 900 calories and my loss slowed a lot at that amount.

I still havent chosen a goal weight i found in the past i would get so determined to get to that goal and when i wouldnt make it or it took forever i would give up but if i lose 60% i would be between 120-140 which at this moment would be satisfying...i am just having a hard time knowing what i should be eating or how much i guess.  I didnt think i was eating too much but apparently i might be its very confusing.  What did everyone eat in a day when they were 2 weeks post op? I am scared to go to pureed next week if i havent mastered this phase lol.  I havent felt nauseous or thrown up.  I always wait before and after to drink and my portion sizes are tiny.

Thank you for mentioning that 900 calories was too much, i wanted to post that in my original post but was afraid I would get jumped all over for critizing her calories.  At 17 days post op i was eating cream soups with unflavoured protein powder added in everything.

This is a sample of what i was eating at about 12 days post op At breakfast I would have greek yogurt cup 100grams = 50 calories + 1/2 scoop of unflavoured protein powder  = 13.5 grams of protein+ 8 grams of protein in the greek yogurt cup.

Snack would be 1/2 premier protein shake.

Lunch 1/4 cup of low fat cream of chicken soup 80 calories + 1/4 scoop of unflavoured protein powder mixed in after soup had cooled down a bit.

Snack 1/2 premier protein shake

Supper 1/4 cup of low fat cream of chicken soup 80 calories + 1/4 scoop of unflavoured protein powder mixed in after soup had cooled down a bit.

Snack some premier protein shake

my total calories around this time was approx 400-500 and 70-90 grams of protein.

When i moved on to puree

breakfast 1 Scrambled egg with some skim milk mixed in to make it more runny and 1/4 cup of apple sauce with 1/2 scoop of unflavoured protein powder

snack 1/2 premier protein shake

Lunch egg salad made with plain greek yogurt instead of mayo mixed in was a bit of unflavoured protein powder.

Snack 1/2 premier protein shake

Supper blue menu canned chunk chicken pureed with chicken broth

Total average calories was still between 400-600 average protein counts were 70-90 grams
