Moving from liquids to pureed

Hey, everyone.

Just a quick question--has anyone successfully moved up to the pureed stage a little early? I'm a week and one day out from surgery and the liquid-only diet is killing me after two weeks of Optifast and five days of Jello-and-juice-only in the hospital. My stomach feels fine (aside from a weird, near-constant grumbling), everything is going well. I've tolerated everything I tried wonderfully.

I did cave earlier tonight and eat a single saltine cracker. It was the greatest thing I've ever put in my mouth. Would it be so horrible for me to start adding those into my diet, even though pureed isn't supposed to start for another week?

My advice - don't start compromising at this very early stage. Slippery slope! I remember being shocked at how long it took to finish a can of mushroom soup. Don't underestimate the extent of the altering your system is healing from. Easy to do when you are feeling pretty good. Trust in the process. You don't want to risk damaging yourself after such a big surgery. Not what you want to hear -- just want to encourage you to stay the course especially in these very early days.

Crackers have no nutritional value at this stage. Have you tried cottage cheese? It is acceptable during liquid stage and I was never a fan until after surgery! I actually could chew it and it felt like real food! I haven't had it since but it made all the difference in that stage. Then chili was and still is my best friend! Good luck. Just follow the plan and it will all be good.

I haven't tried cottage cheese, but I'll definitely look into it. Thanks!

Don't do it. You really don't want to wind up damaging your pouch because you couldn't resist a saltine.

Also, I know you didn't ask but.... empty calories like crackers aren't really your friend, especially at this point. You have such little room in your pouch that protien is the main priority. My 2 cents for what it's worth.

Please don't do it. A cut on your finger takes longer than a week to heal. Compare that to the surgery you just had.
