St. Michael's surgery

Hello there!

My hubby has gotten word that his file is about to be transferred to the St. Michaels site for his gastric bypass surgery.

I just wanted to reach out to anyone here who has had their procedure here. We live between Kingston and Ottawa, but due to numbers, he will be going to Toronto

My questions are surrounding timelines- he had to still do his pre-surgical class in two weeks in Kingston, then the file is sent. Is there a good guess as to how long after the file goes, does a patient have a consult with surgeon and then the actual surgery?

can anyone give me an idea of how long he will have to stay in the hospital and then if he is able to travel home after that, considering we are less than an hour from another surgical site.

Congrats to your husband to having his surgery at St. Mike's. I was fortunate enough to have mine there two months ago. It was an excellent experience. The surgical team and nursing staff are fantastic. If everything goes off without a hitch he will only be there for two days.

Yes, he will have a surgeon consultation where he will meet with the surgeon, sign some forms and order his Optifast. I had my surgeon appointment on Thursday and was called on Monday with a surgery date. My surgery was exactly 7 weeks later.

In terms of timing, it depends on which surgeon he gets. Dr. Grantcherov was excellent, so hopefully that's who he gets.

My surgery is this Monday the 26th. It is only 4-5 weeks after the conference with the surgeon. I have Dr. Rotstein. I am hoping for everything to go well!

Congratulations!!! I had the surgery myself two and a half years ago and I remember being scared the closer it came. But it went so well and everyone was wonderful. You are in good hands!

how soon after your file went to the hospital did you have the surgeon consult?

Honestly I am not sure. After the last mandatory group class it was a only a couple of weeks to talk to the surgeon then 4-5 weeks before surgery.

I had Dr. Rotstein for my surgery. He's the head of surgery at St Mikes, one of the biggest teaching hospitals in Canada, so you are in amazing hands!
