Can anyone remind me what sorts of things they discuss in these appointments? What will they ask of me? I am going through Ottawa and was asked to keep a food diary for at least 3 weeks so I understand the Nutritionist will go through my food diary with me. What will the Behaviorist appointment be like? TIA

Behaviour was the easy appointment. They just ask you about habits, how you've changed habits, your support person/people, lifestyle. If you get Candace, she wants to make sure you have a reliable method of birth control...she doesn't want to see us get pregnant during the 12-18 months post-op. :) I'm sure there was more but that's all I could think of.

Good luck at your appointments!

For me, in Toronto, the psychologist was very similar to the social worker... Except she asked me about my childhood and that sort of thing. I remember she asked if I had ever been bullied for my weight and all I could really say is I had a great childhood, never bullied, just inactive and fat. ?

this is is the one appointment they didn't allow us to bring a support person in. She did ask if I had a support system in place and I mentioned OH.

I remember she asked why now? Which made me cry when I started saying all the things that were hard or I couldn't do because of weight. She wanted to know that I knew the procedure and the risks. She liked that I was well informed and new my stuff. She could tell I had researched and read about it all. So I know you will do fine with that because you also read and research. You will do great...keep me posted and check your email!!

Thanks everyone, I'll make sure to brush up the details of the procedure and risks before I go in. I made a list yesterday of my struggles and what I've done to address them. I hope it's enough. The one thing I'm concerned about is that they wanted us to try to get more protein in our diet, and I know the nutritionist will wrap my knuckles for that one as I haven't done a stellar job on that aspect during the weeks that I've been journaling. I'll keep working at it though.

Hi Piecebypiece.  They didn't go that great actually. I have to go back again for a follow up.  I won't reiterate everything here because the experience still ticks me off, but if you go to my profile, I've blogged the whole experience.  Word of advice, ignore what they told you in the orientation.  All they really want to see is that you are eating and acting 'now' exactly the way you would be eating/acting post-op (not simply following Canada's food guide as they recommend in orientation).  And if you have any challenges, they weren't interested in those, and if you do bring them up, you'll probably be expected to resolve them yourself, and come back in 2 months to show that you've resolved them.
