A bit of help.

Hello, I'm from the Niagara region and I've had some problems getting a referral - at least from the last two doctors I've spoken to; I suppose the most frustrating part is that the last time I went in the doctor went so far as to say I'd be the person he'd refer, if he was comfortable referring anyone between recently making official I've diabetes and apparently need a knee replacement in the not so distant future, on top of my weight woes. I was curious if anyone else had these problems, or could suggest someone I might talk to in the local region who -is- more willing to make use of the online referral system.

I began my WLS journey by asking my doctor to a referral to Wharton Medical Clinic in Toronto. I had never thought about surgery but wanted to do something about my weight. Dr Wharton referred me to the bariatric network. He just opened a location in St Catherine's. May not be incredibly nearby, but at least he is supportive of WLS.

Do you see anyone specifically for your Diabetes? If so, you can ask them for a referral. Or try a walk in clinic. If I'm not mistaken an Nurse Practitioner can do the referral as well as a doctor. Like the other poster, I got a referral to a Weight Loss Clinic (the one that does this also does WLS) and was referred to the Dr. there.

Wishing you luck.
