Smooth Sailing with a couple bad waves lol
Hi Everyone,
5 weeks post-op I can't believe I just said that lol!!! It's been a roller coster but very exciting... So I can tolerate almost everything expect yogurt? Weird! So I have had trial and error; like I made chicken cutlets last week in olive oil made a stupid error or let's call it a lesson 1, I tasted the chicken to make sure it was seasoned and forgot about the oil and I was so sick about half hr, later no dumping just a sore belly and nausea... Lesson 2, ate too fast yesterday and again belly ach and I actually felt I was going to throw up!
Is it normal for me to be able to tolerate so many different foods?? I find it weird and I feel I might be doing something wrong.. But I am losing weight 7lbs to go before the one hundreds...
Hi Blueeyes- Good to hear from you!!! IM 5WKS TOO
Congratulations on being so close to the ONES so soon That's amazing!!!
I haven't ate anything yet that I haven't tolerated- although I do keep my choices quite simple and basic. I haven't had any nausea or soreness.....I wonder if there is something wrong with me as well!!
I am not sure if I have felt this feeling of "fullness" that people talk about either. I portion /measure out my food, maybe I haven't pushed it quantity wise to its limit yet ???? I don't really feel hungry ever. Im sure as I get more adventurous with my food choices I will likely find some issues--that I don't want to find! -LOL I am still waiting for my 1 Mth appt ( they are behind), hoping to get some questions answered there and make sure I'm well on track. I feel good, and I'm losing well.......so I think I'm good !!??
What a crazy ride this is huh??? Soooo many things to learn, and 90% by your own trial and error!!!
Take Care Girl!!!!!! Sounds like you are "normal" and doing great !! ( but what do I know ----- LOL!!!! )
Have a Great Day !!!!!!!!!

Wow...you and I are practically on the same plaine of existence. Seriously. My RNY was July 10. I can eat practically anything except yogurt. What is with that? And I did same thing. I cooked chicken in olive oil and made sure it was moist but could not swallow the chicken. So I chewed and spit out but the little bit of olive oil made me sick. I don't get it. What is with olive oil? Oh I'm not a stranger to this feeling. I have not liked olive oil for many years. But for last 4 years have not been able to eat tomatoes and now I can but I am being very careful and only a little bit at a time. I'm just not sure what foods don't bother me anymore, what foods I have psych' myself to refuse and what will never ever be a possibility.

It's crazy lol!! I'm glad this not a single incident, I have friends to turn too when I need help this is why I love this forum!
I been taking my time haven't venture too far from the normal foods like chicken not too crazy about mashed potatoes I would rather eat veggies... When can we start raw veggies??
Do you have a juicer machine? I have one and I just had a raw veggie snack....JUICED. It's a start. I had cucumber and celery juice with just 6 blueberries. It was great and gave me a little pick me up.
I put small chopped celery and raw veggies, onions in my egg salad or tuna salad.
I am afraid to try lettuce and leafy vegetables. Let me know when you try and I will let you know when I get courageous and successful with the leaves. My fear is I will not chew finely enough and we cannot drink
I have a garden in my backyard and the tomatoes are a happening thing now. I like to make a tomatoes salad but with me, I skin the tomatoes and chop...take out excess seeds ( not really worried about a few seeds here and there)....some basil....some finely chopped onions....only a tbsp of canola oil, salt and pepper with just a touch of oregano. It looks like brucchetta that you get at Italian restaurants. You can put on a piece of Melba toast. I use small rice crackers.
Which reminds me....I have not been able to eat food for two years now. I crave veggies and doing well so far. My problem is there is a beautiful apple tree in my backyard. They will be ready next month. What do you think maybe a can sneak an apple once a week into my diet?

I would definitely check with your centre about progressing to leafy vegetables (extremely hard to chew and digest early out) or raw vegetables of any kind, actually. Apples can be baked so they're more "mushy", but while apples are lovely, keep the carb count in mind with fruit. I can understand maybe "juicing" a little right now, but further out it's not recommended. Better to eat your vegetables than just drink them, which won't assist you to feel satiated.

Thanks Karen. Always appreciate your advice. I will stay away from leafy vegetables. And what little I do of raw veggies, I will juice, mash, chop and chew chew chew before I swallow.

If I recall correctly, I think I had a near-death gag-fest with my first tiny bit of celery LOL
