another setback . . .
Vent away. That's what the forum is for. I guess if it were me, I'd go with whatever is the most important to me. I know the surgery is out there, and possible. Having my career and kids (if I wanted them) would likely come first. I can still work on "me" in the meantime till surgery happens.
Good luck with whatever you choose. Trust your gut.

I think I agree with Laura. Go to work and schedule the surgery. Can you possibly take a week off? Or are there any holidays in that time that you could piggyback onto so you wouldn't have to take too much time? I had 3 weeks off. After 2 weeks, I was back to my part-time job teaching. If I had to go back to work after 1 week, I think I would have suffered through. it would have been miserable, but temporary. Just collapse when you get home. Maybe work from home part days if possible? Or at least schedule any hard things right before surgery and a couple weeks after. You definitely are a victim of terrible timing. But both things are so important, that I think you can maybe bite the bullet and bulldoze your way through it. Definitely gather all your resources, Mom, friends, whoever, to help you. You won't be able to make meals or care for your toddler. But I think you can survive with the proper help and planning. Best of luck to you. 6 months after surgery, you'll look back and wonder how you did it, but will be glad you did.
I was also starting a new job at the same time I was doing my initial appointments at Humber. I explained my situation and they were very good to accomodate me. They moved my appointments out by 3 months so that I could get my initial probation period in.
Explain the situation and let them know. Once you are 6 months on the job, you should be able to a bit of time off from your job. Can you really not take even 2-3 weeks off work? Discuss it with your manager once you have your probation in. There are many ways to make it work.
Its marketing, so the jobs I have interviewed for i would be working with specific client contracts. They don't want me working with a client for only 4-5 months and disappearing for a month and a half in the middle of a campaign, launch, ect. If it was a week or two before the surgery and nothing at all was going on, then maybe, but in my interviews they have said absolutely not.
Hello, I am in a similar boat. I had looked into the program 6 years ago and felt I was not ready for it. Then in 2013 after having a conversation with my doctor we decided to look into it again and I was ready after several years of trying to loose weight and not getting any where. At that time I was at a fairly new job that I hated and as soon as I started taking time off for the appointment we mutually agreed I was leaving. So I was unemployed. I decided to keep moving forward. I had seen the Nutritionist, Nurse and Social Worker and meet with the doctor all at Humber. Then I moved to Guelph. Still unemployed I had hoped that transferring to Guelph things would move along quickly so that I could get my surgery before August 2015 and then start a new job. But after the initial meeting I knew I wasn't going to get surgery before my EI would run out so I started looking for a new job. I found one for a 1 year contract, which I thought would be perfect. I started the job and figured I could get the surgery in Jan. 2016. The job that I got hired for as been extended by almost 6 months. I am not willing to wait for the job to be done to have the surgery. That is my decision. I will leave the job even though I absolutely love the job, over delaying surgery any longer. You need to make the decision based on you needs. I need to have the surgery more than a job I love. Write a list of pros and cons and then decide.

Glad you have your situation worked out! I didn't decide not to do it, my things just kept getting lost and doctors kept saying just be patient, well get to you... 8 years later. lol.
For me, I don't want to get a bad name in the industry, its fairly tight knit from what i have seen and just starting out I don't want to get punished because I am going through for the surgery.
If they cannot get my surgery any closer I will do what the ladies earlier suggested and see if I can afford to hire some in home help and only take 1 week off. I recovered quickly from my csection, i know its way different but i am pretty confident that my body will rebound quickly.
This may not be possible with your job, but I know several marketing professionals (myself included) who work from home. When I worked in an office, my boss (director of marketing) worked from home (and was a 5 hour flight away).
Maybe you can get a week off as you think may be possible and work from home for a week if you physically aren't up to go into the office. It's worth looking in to.
i can't imagine coping with being lost in the system like you have been. Good luck! Stay strong!
