EXTREMELY frustrated and very discouraged!

Ok so im pretty infuriated right now.  The time frame is so totally not right and I've been really patient, compliant and I have no follow ups etc.. I get an appointment today for November 23 surgery which is 7 months away.  Literally for no appointments and no followups or any assessments. 

So my question is, can I change surgeons?  This isn't actually about my patience in this process because I think 1 1/2 years waiting till surgery is pretty patient, considering the time frame seems to follow 10-12 months.  Dr. Starr is taking the whole month of July off.  I'm in school and willing to take the time off and have huge time frames in order to do surgery but I'm starting finals in that month and if not, would have to wait till next year? 

There has to be other options.  They said there is no cancellation list or short list.  So as much as I would like to have Dr. Starr, I really thought  its been nearly a year and they could come up with a surgery date from my last assessment in less than 7 months. 

Sorry if I sound really peeved right now, but Maybe this just isn't in the cards for me afterall. 

Hi sorry I can't help you with your question but I understand ur frustration.. I waited 4 months for my orientation when I see people getting there's in two or three months.. Now I am waiting to get my surgeon appointment guess that's going to take longer then 4 months I waited for orientation seeing one of the Drs taking month of July off.. I was hoping to have my surgery by the new year but it looks like that's not going to happen.. Hang in there ur getting closer and closer hope u can earlier date. Good luck on ur journey 

While I understand your frustration with waiting, in looking at your time line in your signature, it's basically a year from orientation to surgery, which is very standard.

basically i see a year from referral. not from orientation.  so i don't think its so standard all the time. I will be 17 months from referral. but hey.  I just posted to my frustrations.  not expecting some fast track.  anyways, I'll figure it out.  I was just upset by the phone call and really discouraged.  I'll figure it out.

Not sure about your centre but I was out of TWH and they told me once you are assigned to a surgeon and have physically met with them, you are not allowed to change. Well you can, but you would have to start the whole process over. Now that was a year and a half ago...not sure if this is still the case. 

You can, but it has to be extreme cir****tances.  A few months after I met with my surgeon my father died, and I actually got the call to book the date 2 days after he died.  I put it on hold for several months before calling them back and asking to put back in the pool and got a surgery date for 2 months after that call.

Hopefully this doesn't happen to anyone else, but just in case someone reads this who is in a similar situation and thinks they have no choice but to take the date they are given or completely start over.

WOW! that is all I can say.  I understand your frustration. Had my first with the doctr in February and had my surgery in June.  Praying everything works out for you!

We're in Ontario CANADA and have a very different process than private insurance etc. as you have in the states.

I'm sorry to see that you've deactivated. If you come back, message me as I may have some tips. I was put on a very long waiting list and was able to push myself and 75 others through with the help of my MP and MPP. We were all transferred from HRRH to TWH. My surgeon went from Dr. Klein to Dr. Okrainec.
