Out of town patients having surgery in Toronto?
HRRH's policy is if your more than one hour away you must stay at near the hospital for several days post op or they won't operate on you.
It's for your safety, you must be near your bariactric centre in case you need them. Your local hospital won't touch you in an emergency, they won't know what to do.

I'm about 2 hours north, and as much as I would LOVE to be home in my own bed and pillow, and my cat - I am making plans to stay in TO for 2 nights. I'd rather that than endure a family member driving like a crazy panicked loon with me riding shotgun experiencing pain & road rage for the trip back down to TO in traffic should a complication arise.

I had my surgery at HRRH and I was told that I needed to stay close by since I am 2 hours away. It is very comforting to know that if something bad did happen I would be close to the experts that could help. Don't forget to ask your bariatric clinic if there are hotels in the area that offer special bariatric rates. We saved $40/night by asking for the bariatric rate. Good luck. Chris
