GUELPH TIME FRAME

I was recently transferred from Hamilton to Guelph because Hamilton had a backlog of patients.  My orientation was April 23.  I called today and made an appointment for the nurse for May 11 and for the dietician and social worker for June 8.

I am wondering if anyone who went through Guelph can give me an idea of time frame.  The reason I am asking is because I'm concerned about the fact that I started a new job in January.  Thankfully I get some holiday time that I will use towards my time off.  I do not know if I should save the holidays to use before the end of 2015 or not.

I guess I am just wondering with appts started for May and June, am I apt to have the surgery before the end of 2015 or will it be into 2016.  I know there are no strict guidelines as to timing so just a general idea based on your own experiences would be awesome.

Hi Kate,

I was 13 months from orientation to surgery ( surgery May 2014).  A friend of mine recently had surgery, and she was around the one year mark.  Sorry I can't be more of a help.

Good luck to you.  The people at Guelph are great.

Thank you for the info.

Can I ask if you had to have a sleep study done?  From what I've seen, having to have one of those booked and results back have slowed people in their appointments and lucky for me I already have a CPAP machine.

Hi Kathy,

I had the sleep study done while waiting for my appointments.  I was borderline on the questionnaire, so I figured I would be on the safe side and get one done just in case.  Luckily for me I did, as I turned out to have severe sleep apnea..

They will require you to bring a printout/proof that you use your machine, and you will need to bring your machine with you on the day of your surgery.

If you have any more questions feel free to pm me anytime.  no worries.

it all depends how proactive you can be as well...getting all your tests done as soon as you can, will help.  My timeline should show in my signature (I hope, have been having some technical difficulties with the site).  Right now, I stand at a year from referral to post op class, another three-four months before surgery for me, so about 1 1/2?

Moving on doesn't mean you forget about things.  It just means you have to accept what happened and continue LIVING

I had my orientation for Guelph in Aug 2014 and have surgery booked for July 24/2015.  so just shy of a year.  Time does fly by very fast. I didn't need a sleep test so that helped speed things along. I think most postings I have seen for Guelph are within a year of orientation.  Some people are put a short notice cancellation list which can help speed things along. I personally just took the appointments as they gave them to me so I could plan child care and work around them.

Hope this helps
