OH geez, pretty hard to answer without knowing your tastes, style, and or what you are looking for. Toronto has SOOOO much shopping. Super pricey, to vintage, to some great mid price ranged outlet stores outside the city in the GTA... I do a lot of outlet shopping myself, and for that, I leave the downtown core. I frequent a lot of outlet malls on the attached.

If you're actually looking to stroll the streets of Toronto, walking and spending a full day here, my fav neighbourhoods for shopping, eating, window looking, people watching, etc, would be Parkdale / West Queen West (TONS of food options here, and shopping is mostly vintage clothing/ high end independent boutiques / antiques) West Queen West, is about half a mile from Parkdale, they are beside one and other, so would be a nice place to park and stroll the streets of Queen West. It is more artistic geared than right downtown, so you will find a lot of independent shops, and neat unique shopping and food experiences. If you more prefer to be surrounded by global brands, you could hang out in the concrete portion of the city right downtown, and head to the shops on Bloor http://www.bloor-yorkville.com/Directory/Shops-Services.aspx All depends on your individual tastes! Enjoy
As for food, TONS of tapas places here, which is perfect for us with super tiny appetites. Have fun!
