In Hospital After Emergency Surgery!
Oh wow!! I'm glad you got to TWH when you did.
Get that lung working! And get home away from their horrid food!! Take care, and thanks for the update!
Surgery March 23/2011. Completed three full marathons and two half marathons, two half Ironman distances. Completed my first Full Ironman distance (4 km swim, 180 km bike, 42.2 km (full marathon) run) in Muskoka August 30/2015. Next Ironman Lake Placid July 23/2017!
Thanks guys! Today's visits by the doctors did not go so well. My hemoglobin is dropping fairly significantly. They are going to repeat the blood work and if it is no better they will have to give me a blood transfusion and possibly head back to the OR to see what is going on in there. So looks like I will be here for a bit longer. I'm freaking out now.
This just happened to me too! I actually had surgery to remove a cyst on my scalp at the beginning of February and immediately following that surgery I could not eat without extreme pain. I went to my family physician who sent me for an ultrasound and then advised me to see my bypass surgeon ASAP. I saw my surgeon and was immediately in surgery. Repaired my Peterson and closed up the extra space created in my abdomen from the weight loss. I now have 6 incisions to add to my incisions from bypass. I'm polkadotted lol... The pain afterwards was the most excruciating pain I have ever experienced in my life! I am 10 months post op.
I had a ventral hernia about 16 mos post op, too, but nothting to your degree...wow!
I would be furious with the hospital that turned you away. It sounds like they never bothered to even look. Hernia's aren't that difficult to diagnose, and it doesn't take a wls to repair.

Just wanted to post a quick update and let you guys know that I am home and doing OK. This recovery has been horrible!! I had my RNY, left the hospital 48 hours later and never took another pain pill. Had a C-Section...no paids after initial 12 hours. This one....surgery was a week ago today and I am still taking Oxycodone every 4 hours...and literally staring at the clock about an hour before I am due for more meds and just counting down the minutes. It is awful. Every movement is excruciating. The umbilical hernia repair with mesh is not too bad, but the two Petersens space hernia repairs is very painful. Has anyone else had this done? What was your recovery like? I have 5 little ones and I feel so helpless! Thankfully my hubby is stepping in and has been amazing. The left side of my abdomen has a huge dent in it. It looks and feels very odd. If he was gonna give me a tummy tuck, I wish he would have done both sides! Lol
thankfully I did not require a blood transfusion as things calmed down and any bleeding inside due to all the marginal ulcers in my pouch, bowel seem to have subsided. I also refused any more blood thinner injections as that could not have been helping matters. We will do another endoscopy in two months to check it again and I will be on two meds until then.
What an exhausting week! Glad it's over ad hopefully recovery will go well.

I had two Petersen's done and for me recovery was very simple. Took no pain meds in hospital and none once I left either. I could have gone home the same afternoon had they let me but they made me stay 24 hours. We all recover differently though so maybe this one just knocked the wind out of you but good. I have seen others say they found recovery painful.

No I didn't have a dent at all. It definitely feels tight on the left side but no dent. I have had a tummy tuck so abs are pretty tight to begin with but it's a different tight on that side now. I remember with one of my many lap surgeries, I did have a dent on the side and it eventually popped. They do a lot of the work through the trochars on the left side and then when they stitch it up, they stitch it to the muscle so it makes that dent then when the stitch lets go the dent does too.
