How likely is it to get a pass

March 30 I will meet with my social worker for the second time and the nutritionist the first time and April 8th with he doctor second time. How likely would it be to get a pass from all 3 of them to move on to surgeon. If my sleep apnea test comes back ok also. What's the wait time for surgery? I'm going thru Windsor and leaning towards going to Guelph for surgery.

I have to disagree a little bit with the last post.  Don't tell them what you think they want to hear.  That's not going to help you in the long run.  Listen to them.  Hear their advice and what they want you to change.  Be honest in your conversation.  You can share with them your struggles.  In my experience, they were very understanding, and knew that we all struggle at times.  But they do want to make sure you understand where your weaknesses are and what you need to work on in order to be successful.  The appointments are there to make sure you can cope post-surgery with your new diet and new way of living.  They want to make sure you have the tools and the ability to make the changes necessary.

For me, I only needed one appointment with the behaviourist, but two with the dietician.  They wanted to see what changes I made after the first meeting. And though I waited longer than a lot of people -- almost three years from referral to surgery due to a backlog and changeover in systems -- these particular appointments were a crucial part of the process in my opinion.

Good luck with the process!

I am not looking to jump through hoops to get surgery faster if I am not ready, I was just curious if it was possible to be passed on to surgeon or there are still more appointment. I'm a planner. Thanks for your replies.

I wasn't suggesting that you were trying to get through any faster.  What I objected to was the person who posted the advice of "just tell them what they want to hear".  I don't think that is particularly useful for anyone going through this process, unless, from time to time, you run into a really unhelpful dietician, etc. (which does happen based on what i've heard/read, but is not the norm).

As for process, once you get cleared by the behaviourist/social worker and dietician, and assuming your sleep apnea result is good, you will likely get booked for the pre-surgical class and then see the surgeon (or vice versa...can't quite remember the order, but think i had the calss before I met with the surgeon).  The surgeon may request additional tests, like an endoscopy or others.  After that, it's pretty much a straight path to surgery, assuming everything else goes well.

Good luck!

Thank you. This was helpful. I still need to do the surgical class which I assume will be booked at next doctor appt if all my test results are good.
