Hi

I am almost 5 weeks out.  I have been getting my protein and almost 1l of water a day but have been having issues with constipation 😟.

I was told to boost my fibre but find it challenging this early to meet both protein and fibre #'s.

What are some easy high fibre additions I can try as I don't want to become reliant of milk of magnesia which doesn't always work😡

Not sure on the food, but at my center they said a minimum of 2 litres of water a day.  Perhaps increasing hydration would help?

At Guelph they recommend Colace. It's a stool softener.

You learn the importance if fibre really, really fast after surgery. Had similar issues following surgery. I started incorporating All-Bran Buds into my greek yogurt on a daily basis for breakfast or a snack. Worked for me!  It's much easier now a couple of years out from surgery. You'll find something that works for you.

Good luck!

Constipation was pretty much my only issue. I spoke to the nurse and nutritionalist at length at my first follow up appointment last week.

Some suggestions were to try ground flax seed mixed in yogurt or Fibre 1 cereal added to yogurt. She also recommended oat bran cereal ( higher fibre than outmeal) which I picked up at Bulk Barn along with the ground flax seed. We also went through the list of vegetables and fruits (I can start eating soft foods tomorrow 😊) that were higher in fibre.

As instructed by my surgeon I do take stool softener daily.

If you need something to get things moving Guelph says you can use Senekot or Restoralax. The nutritionalist also said I could use sugar free Metamucil.

They both encouraged me to call anytime if I was concerned so that would be another option for you.

Good luck! I know it seems to be the only thing you can think of at times but it will get better. I have a feeling my issues aren't over yet so I will be treading carefully for a while. Kim
