I am 2 years post RNY and doing fantastic.  I have maintained my 130 lbs weight loss and just had a mastopexy (breast lift) which has been a DREAM of mine for over 15 years!  I am ALWAYS nauseous after any surgery AND with this one, of course, I had some pain killers that I had to take with food but wasn't into eating too much.  So I was getting waves of sickness.  Funny thing is I would feel awful, then my mouth would star****ering, then I'd dry heave and then I'd feel better!  Nothing ever came up!  Kept happening like that...even if I did manage to eat something.  Usually even if there's nothing in there you get up some bile or something.  That got me thinking...when was the last time I may have thrown up...and short of post RNY and some food coming up before it hit my stomach, I don't think I've really "THROWN UP" since RNY!  I know this shouldn't be a bad thing but I'm curious....does the "barf" thing not happen the same way when the internal plumbing has changed???   So curious!

Good question! I've never been much of a "thrower upper" but my last bout of stomach flu did me in. I'm curious to know too!

Trust me you can be sick if you have food in your stomach. We do not produce the same acids extra so not as much to empty with no food there

Congrats on your operation.  I can't wait to be 18 months post op to get one.  How much did it cost?

Are you allergic to the pain meds? I was allergic to the morphine and after RNY I was throwing up. I didn't relate that codeine is in the same family and they didn't think about the relationship of the allergy.

hope you heal soon and that you get to enjoy your new body

Im 2.5 years out and vomit at least a few times a week. It happens regardless of what or how much I eat. It's definitely a different sensation post op.  The big difference I've noticed is how often I feel nauseous. I hardly ever did before surgery.

I was also having issues after meals. I would get the foamies. I found that if I sit for a few seconds before eating and make sure I am focused on eating and not the chaos around me it helps. Also never eating anything dry

The siting quiet was suggested in a Mindful Eating class I have been doing and it has really helped.

Generally you don't have much bile/acid so it tends to look different if you do.

Many of us don't throw up.  I've thrown up once in 8.5 years.  Instead I get nauseated and extremely gaggy.

Good to know!  Thank you!  I guess I should have expected things to be "different".  I was a pretty barfy gal before RNY (motion sickenss, etc.) Sometimes when you feel that nauseated and "gaggy" you just want to barf and get it over with!!   I guess that's what I'm missing, strangely.
