bad news for me
I am sorry you got this news. I have been getting similar news lately and it sucks. I will tell you to really research having the tear fixed. I was told recently that it is often not successful. I have an old one on the back of my knee and a new one on the front. I tried gell injections but they didn't really do much and certainly did not deal with the pain from the tears.
Oh Barb!! I'm so sorry to hear that. I would cry! However, your goals are really good with thinking of doing the 70.3. I would focus on that goal, instead of trying "one more marathon". The Around the Bay might be your last at 30k. A half-ironman is much less taxing on your body, and your knees in general. The main focus for IM training is the bike. By the time you get to the half-marathon distance, you will have jello legs for the first bit, and you will run and walk....or just trot along. Keep up with your determination....you're an inspiration my dear! xoxo
Surgery March 23/2011. Completed three full marathons and two half marathons, two half Ironman distances. Completed my first Full Ironman distance (4 km swim, 180 km bike, 42.2 km (full marathon) run) in Muskoka August 30/2015. Next Ironman Lake Placid July 23/2017!
He is ok with me doing around the bay. the training for around the bay is not so long as the marathon as you know. last year when I did around the bay i had no issues where the year before is when i first had the issue. I will do a some triathlons this summer and a few half marathons and see what happens. I will be getting a new bike soon so excited but have no idea what brand. I am going to start this year to increase riding distance so i will be use to it in two years. I will do this half iron man
I'm sorry that you are going through this. At least your friend is being honest with you, and thinking of what's best for you. If you are currently having some bone on bone issues, also ask him about what you need to keep an eye on for that.
I know that you love running, but if you have to cut back on what you do, would there be other options to share your love of running? Perhaps even by helping others learn to run? Or as someone suggested, would you be able to do bi or triathlons? I'm sure it would require as much or more training that a marathon (not that I am experienced).
Cathy
P.S. Glad you shared, and didn't chose food!
My old way would have been food. I am grateful to my friend and I would rather have heard it from him than a stranger who does not understand the love of running. I am going to try a few half marathon this year and see how it goes. I have around the bay this year and I am not going to worry about time but just have a good run and hope for no knee issue
