There are a lot of mental/emotional challenges along this path, Franny. For the longest time I couldn't see any physical changes in myself despite losing a great deal of weight. You look at yourself every day, likely several times per day, so it's not surprising that you don't see it. The previous poster gave you a good suggestion in comparing photos of yourself, doing body measurements could also help.
