RNY done and I'm home! Now where to start?
I had my surgery on Monday and I'm home! As wonderful as the staff was at TWH there's still no place like home. Some pain but feel fairly good being that I just had major surgery. No nausea and just little intermittent toots trying to get the gas out. The ride home was a little rough. Between the streetcar tracks and the potholes I had to hold my insides together.
My dilemma is where to start with all these pills and vitamins. They gave so much information it made my head spin so I'm trying to sort through it and organize them in my pill case now - I hope it's big enough. I did figure out to take the Tylenol 3 right away! The last and only OxyContin I had was at 4:30 this morning so it was time. Any suggestions or tips on keeping this stuff straight?
So I think I'll have a shake and sort through stuff in a more orderly manner now that I'm home.
Make some room on the bench please!
As soon as I got home from the hospital, (and slept for 3 hours) I had to make a chart for myself due to all the confusion and surplus of information. It had 3 items on it - menu, medication and vitamins/minerals with timings for everything. I had to keep it available all the time to keep myself organized and I did this for each phase of the diet. Hope this helps.
Yay! I'm so glad you made it through your surgery and are home safely! It's hard to believe that I had surgery only 9 day ago too!
The first day home is hard -- I freaked out about all the supplements and timings etc. Some gave me sage advice to not worry too much about supplements for the first couple of days, just get enough rest, walk as much as feels comfortable, and sleep a lot! After that, by Day 3 of being at home, you'll feel 1000x better and able to deal with the complexity that is eating/drinking/supplementing! I'm now getting in all my vitamins and most of my protein (I'm still finding it hard to get 60gr in per day but I'm trying hard). It will get easy for you too. I organized all my supplements, laxatives, stool softener, and prescription antacids in a single box on my coffee table to remind me to take them at the right intervals and it seems to be working well. It does get easier.
Welcome to the bench, surgery buddy! Looking forward to tracking your successes in the coming weeks!
Thanks MsMuggins! It is a lot of information and I thought I had it under control until I got home and just felt overwhelmed. "Freaked out" is pretty accurate too! Ha! So I've taken a deep breath, had a protein shake (not near as good as Optifast) and took a few pills for the afternoon.
Then I remembered I had an app called Dosecast that I've been using all this time for my other meds. Duh! Brain short. So I've input all the meds and supplement scheduling into it. My pill box is still to small though. I guess I need the super duper size. The chewables alone took up most of the space in the AM square.
Thanks for the welcome surgery buddy! Here's to a successful journey for all of us!

Welcome to the bench!! Try to not get overwhelmed with the pills, it will become second nature after time. Wishing you the speediest recovery!!
OH, and you should have a hand held folder they gave me at TWH, with week by week instruction on food, and VITS to look over as a reminder.
Thanks Jennifer! I think I needed to catch my breath and take a chill pill. And I needed some real food (a protein shake) and to pull myself together. Enough with the Jello already!
I've got the folder and the paperwork and the binder we had to buy. But what is VITS?
Hard to believe it's finally done! Woohoo!

short for vitamins!
Congrats again! Feels almost surreal, doesn't it. After all this time.
