Question for the TWH Peeps
Coming down to the end of my appointments leading up to my surgeon's appointment and I'm getting anxious. I can't wait to be on the bench.
Wondering what takes place at this appointment? Also, did you have more than one surgeon appointment before surgery? Finally, how long between the surgeon appointment and your surgery date?
Any info you could give me would be much appreciated!!!
Thanks!
T.
Yay that's exciting! My surgeon appointment is Feb 6th, you'll have to let me know how it goes!!

It all went very fast for me once I had my meet the surgeon' appointment. They will go over the surgery with you briefly, and ensure you understand what you are agreeing to, ask you a few medical questions that you have likely answered 50 times already, and then the nurse will have you sign some consent forms, and preferences for your stay at the hospital (private room etc.
Then she will bring you to another room where another nurse will take out a calendar, and show you the available dates. Not sure how busy they are right now, but I was able to get a date two weeks out and had to start opti immediately.
Good luck, you're very close now!

Because my surgery date was so soon, I had to go pick mine up because I needed to start it immediately and couldn't wait for it to be shipped. But yes, usually you would pay for it right then at that appointment and TWH faxes in the order for it to the medical mart where its sold, in mississauga. You can tell them you'd rather pick it up in mississauga though.
I met the surgeon's assistant and he asked me if I wanted the Roux NY or the VSG. That more than anything really shocked me because I thought I had no choice. Everyone says that there is no choice so I was floored and speechless. I did stick with what I thought was the better choice for me, the RNY, although in the beginning I had leaned more towards the VSG.
I also have Dr. Urbach and I am scheduled for January 12. My surgeons appointment was on December 12.
I only had one surgeon's appointment. My initial surgeon's appointment was Dec 19 with Dr. Grantcharov, but when I found out from his office that he wasn't scheduling surgeries until April or May 2015, I called and emailed my nurse practitioner and let her know and she moved my surgeon appointment up one week.
Good luck!
