' Stitch ' like pain ?

Hey all ,

Hope everyone is well and starting their New Year off well :)

I just have a small question . I will be seeking advice on Monday from my clinic , and if this continues or worsens I'll be going to emerge this weekend . But I just wanted to see if anyone else has any insight also .

Late yesterday I began feeling a stitch like pain in my lower left abdomen area , kind of in my side and around to my back. Not terrible ,just subtle  . It becomes a sharp pain when I breathe deeply , hiccup or burp. The top area of my left shoulder/ collar bone area has a faint pain also . Not unlike the mild gas pains I experienced in the few days after my RNY . I should point out , I had my surgery on 16th December. Everything has been going great ,no issues with food or fluids . I get more than enough water in daily . I'm eating to plan and feel really good . I had a bowel movement  yesterday . I seem to be going every other day sometimes every 2 days . This actually is the only ' issue ' if you can call it that ,that I've had as its painful when I go due to it being hard ( I take my stool softeners religiously ) ...but it is getting much easier . I'm passing gas normally I'd say .

So of course being a research and Internet geek I'd been doing some reading but have not found many helpful answers as to what it could be . So I though I'd post and ask if anyone else has any insight. Like I say it's not terrible , more annoying and of course worrysome  that it may be the start of something wrong . ( I'm at the paranoid beginning stages of this !!) And again , I will be seeking advice on Monday and of course sooner if it worsens . Just wanted to ask more for my mind .

Thanks everyone x

I am not a doctor so take with a grain of salt. It might be your gall bladder. Best to have it checked by your doctor

Thanks Pat , I will be doing just that on Monday or before if need be. I did think about Gallbladder , as I've had issues in the past with it . Last attack was about 6 years ago , I saw a specialist and he said we may as well take it out . However at that time I did not have a health card as I was in the process of applying for permanent residency. So he said it could wait. I never had another attack again !! And subsequently just forgot about it . I mentioned it to Dr Klien in my last appointment before surgery . He said not to worry about it and they wouldn't do anything unless I was having symptoms.Which I wasn't . However , this doesn't feel the same really , and everything I've read , and remember , the pain tends to be more on the right side ? This is definitely all left side . It's in the spot where you'd put your hands if you put your hands on your hips .

Anyway , I'll be sure to follow up , thanks for replying . x

It's likely your internal stitching healing and soon it will pop and all will be good.  I have had many lap surgeries and they do most of the work on the left side and when they stitch us up, they stitch inside and as that heals, it tightens and feels like a dull pain that can be a bit sharp now and then and eventually it just lets go.  I have had the pop sound a few times when it lets go and other times just wake up and it's gone.  Usually happens by 4 weeks post op unless you are a slow healer then it can take a bit longer.  If the pain is anywhere near that left side incision, I'd say it's likely just that but you can call to make you feel at ease.

I have had my gallbladder removed. The pain for ME was on the right side, though it may be possible to feel it on the left I don't know. Since your surgery was only in December, I am willing to bet that what Tracy said is correct...and it is internal healing and tightening/scar tissue. Always, of coarse, ask your surgeon =) I am over a year post op and I still get annoying pains on BOTH sides from time to time and I have no idea what causes them. I do know many, MANY people on here complain about a left side pain, so it's not uncommon.

Also.....I am an internet searcher too....but I find it's better to search HERE than google, lol. When you find 100 other people who have suffered the same pain as you and have had the same surgery...it can help calm your nerves a little =) Good luck.

Now I'm only pre-op but I know from working experience that Gallbladder pain is usually but not exclusively upper right abdomen and into the back. It may be as someone above mentioned your internal sutures healing and pulling or it may also be related to your hard stools. The lower left abdomen is the home of your large colon and the rectum, end of the journey for all stool waste so if it's been hard and not easy to go you may be slightly backed up and it's causing the uncomfortable, annoying pain in your lower abdomen because it is stretching things. I don't know if your clinic suggested any other bowel treatments but maybe you could give them a try and see if you can get things moving more softly and more frequently and it may help. Again I'm not a doctor but I do see a lot of this at work. Good-Luck Hope you feel better soon :-)

Hey darling,

I had it too, a dull ache tight feel, that seemed to worsen than get better, then come back. I wrote a post looking for advice on it too. I think, in my case, Tracy was right.

Hope you are feeling better soon xoxo

Thanks doll , I must have missed that post of yours . I hope it is just that , it defo seems to be not doing anything ? If that makes sense ? It's just .....There ! not getting worse , eases off a little depending on what I'm doing . Which has been Zilcho today !!! I guess I'll just mention it to them on Monday and see what they say . I've still to make my follow up appointment . I'd left them a couple of messages over the hols but obviously they've been closed a few days here and there. Maybe they'll get me in sooner if I mention this . It's just that early stage paranoia you know ?! Apart from that I'm really feeling great !! I'm already so glad I did this !

Anyway , hope you are well ma wee chick

Chat soon xx
