I was also at Humber and everything everyone else said is spot on.  My insurance covered semi-private, so I took it.  I was there 4 nights (some complications) and the night that I did not have a room-mate was my best night's sleep, so if you can afford it, I would get a private room.  You just never know who you're going to have in your room.

My benefits cover private room, so I will take that when the time comes.  Keep in mind that they aren't always available.  Good luck with your decision.

I had an interesting experience at Humber, after being in recovery for a few hours the brought me up to the 5th floor the first thing my husband said is Dr Hagen said you can go home tomorrow. I said WHA........T .( At my Patts appointment it was written in the notes that I would be in 72hrs. )  At this point I hadn't so much as sat up let alone walked or anything. So I was quite taken back. And then from that point on every couple hours or less the nurse came in to check vitals and give me more papers with instructions She gave my family a list of prescriptions to pick-up one being the blood thinners I would be injecting myself with for ten days after. It had been along time since my initial clinics so somehow I had forgotten about that. So with all the info flying at you, trying to get walking, peeing and sipping there was no time to really notice my room mates much. Apparently it is their new policy to discharge next day for bariatric patients. Just because I was so surprised and unprepared for that, they said if I didn't feel ready I could stay but by morning I felt like I was good enough to go. So in my humble opinion if you don't have coverage and its just 24hrs I wouldn't worry about keeping everyone awake they can have a nap when you leave. lol. Good Luck my dear may everything go perfectly with your surgery and recovery.

I requested a private room at Scarborough General in September, but ended up in a room with a 72 yr old woman who had just had surgery for bowel cancer, I couldn't wait to be discharged the next day as she was entirely depressing (not her fault), but I asked the surgeon at noon the next day if I could leave...and just so you know that meant boarding a plane for Thunder Bay, with no family...

I commend you for taking other people's feelings in consideration, especially since you state your family is large and loud, you may have roomates that had a complicated surgery or?? for whatever they are in the hospital for and you might have a better peace of mind if you are in your own room and don't have to worry about what others think.

So I may not follow the trend..I would personally get my own room.

prior to surgery 323lbs....4 years post-op maintaining between 108- 114 lb loss.

life is AMAZING when you continue on the right path~!.  Use your surgeons gift to the fullest~!
