St Michaels Hospital & Dr. Grantcharov

I can't seem to find any recent info on Dr. Teodor Grantcharov.  Has anyone had him?  I don't meet with him until next month.

And I can't find anything on St. Michael's Hospital.  Anyone know what the wait times are there?  I've done everything at TWH but it seems like I'm going to be at St. Michael's for the surgery.   =(

The TWH program has three locations, including St. mike's and Toronto East. I had Dr. G. For my bowel obstruction surgery and he is excellent. St. Mike's is a great hospital too. All your follow up will still be at TWH.

Surgery March 23/2011. Completed three full marathons and two half marathons, two half Ironman distances. Completed my first Full Ironman distance (4 km swim, 180 km bike, 42.2 km (full marathon) run) in Muskoka August 30/2015. Next Ironman Lake Placid July 23/2017!

Thanks Kellybelly.  I was hoping to stay at TWH since it's only 20 minutes away from me, though I knew I could possibly get "farmed out" to the other two hospitals.  Seems like everyone on this board in the GTA had their surgery at TWH so I'm disappointed that I'll be going to St Mike's since I hadn't heard much about people's experiences there.  I wonder how they decide who goes where?

Everyone is so nice at TWH so I hope that spills over to St. Mike's too.  And I'm happy to hear that my follow-up care will still be back at TWH.  =)

Thanks for letting me know that you really liked Dr. Grantcharov.  I saw some posts dated back in 2010 so at least I know he's got 4 years of experience in bariatric surgery!  He didn't do your RNY too?

Dr. G. Is the head staff surgeon, you're in very good hands. I had my surgery at Toronto East with Dr. Aarts. I went to St. mike's because it was the closest hospital that does bariatric surgery to my work, for when I had to go to emerg.

I didn't know he was the head staff surgeon.  That makes me feel much better!  Thanks.

I had Dr. G last year, have not had an issues or health concerns. I met him in September and my surgery was booked for October (with the 3 weeks of optifast). The staff at SMH were amazing and I can not speak highly enough of my experience.  If we could recommend doctors, I would recommend him in a second. His bedside maor was professional and he seemed generally interested in making sure I was comfortable post-op

I did all of my pre-ops at TWH, I was okay with SMH, it is closer to my home. He has great reviews on rate MD, also I know some nurses who have worked with him and spoke very highly of him. He is also an associate professor at U of T. Here is his profile from SMH. http://www.stmichaelshospital.com/research/profile.php?id=gr antcharov

Feel free to PM if you have any other questions

I'm so happy to read about your positive experience with Dr. G, the staff and St. Mikes.  The staff at TWH has been so nice so I hoping to stay with them.  It's nice to know that there are terrific people at St Michael's too!

I really like that you only had to wait a month after your appointment with him.  When I spoke to TWH last week they couldn't give me any time estimates.  I hope this year he's still only a month out for surgery.  My appointment with him is in December and a January surgery would be wonderful!

Thank you for the profile link.  I'm totally impressed.  Plus he's easy on the eyes too!  =)

It certainly sounds that way KathC.  I think I've gone from "gee who is this doc and why didn't anyone else on the forum have him?" to "Wow! I think I've won the doctor lottery!"

Thanks KathC and everyone for the positive words of encouragement.  They are much appreciated!

I was the same way at first.. A t bit concerned. But when even when the Dr. Doing my pre-op said " you are lucky, Dr. G. Is the best surgeon I know" I felt a lot better too :)
