I also take iron. I take it twice a day and was told to take it with vitamin c. It will make you feel ill on an empty stomach

What kind of iron are you taking?  Some forms are much more likely to cause nausea than others.  For instance, ferrous sulfate often causes nausea.  Carbonyl very seldom does.  My suggestion is to switch to carbonyl iron if you're not already taking that.

Hi,

I am taking ferrous sulfate :( that is the one the nurse at my pre-op told me I needed to take. I will speak to the pharmacy to see if Carbonyl wi give me the same result. Thanks so much for your help and advise!!

Make sure you're taking it with food, and as mentioned previously not with calcium. I take "Vitron C" which is iron with vitamin C and it seems to work well for me. I take it more towards the middle of my meal because if I take it at the end of my meal I can taste it for about an hour after I've taken it. It gives me a metallic taste. I've found if I take it without food it makes me nauseous. I hope this helps. :)

please read this post.  I take Feramax, have been for years, and I have no problems with it.

I read about iron in that article you posted. Are you saying you take the "Feramax" on an empty stomach and don't have any problems at all with it causing metallic taste or stomach upset? Every iron I've taken has caused me problems if I don't take them with food. My labs have been fine on what I've been doing, but I'm always open to trying new things if the vitamins and minerals will absorb better by changing things up (and not causing me discomfort). Thanks for posting the article. :)

Yep, I take it at night, and have no issues.
