hospital cost???
Morning all...just wondering if anyone has encountered this hospital fee...when i went for my pre-op the other day at HRRH the lady registering me informed me that the room is 250 per night over and above what ohip covers?!?! Wtf. ...is that correct? I dont think a night a the royal york even cost that much lol....
depends on the type of room you requested if you do not have private or semi -private coverage and they put you in one of those rooms they can charge you over and above OHIP rates if you request that type of room.

Semi private rooms are $250.. I requested one because insurance would paid for it but I didn't get one...so there wasn't any charge..

Ohhh yes. I thought I had semi private coverage so that's the room I requested. I ended up in for 6 days, I had complications. We got a bill a month later, shocked to say the least. $450.00. We asked why, it was because my plan covers semi private BUT only up to a maximum dollar amount. So when I had called to confirm my coverage and was told yes I have semi private the gal didn't mention to me that it was up to X amount.
I had insisted that they listen to the recorded phone call. They said they couldn't! I had to pay the amount because we did find it documented on our paper copy of our policy, ugh!
So, just check your policy to be sure what and how much your coverage gives.

Any time I have been admitted to hospital (which sadly has been a LOT in the last year and a half prior to surgery 8.5 years ago) I didn't specify what kind of room I wanted, just ticked off the box that I had semi coverage. I always had a semi room, no charge, because that has always been what is available, so that is where they put me. No charge.
