Snack Foods - What do you eat for an on the go snack food?
I have been grocery shopping this week with a new mind set but have been painfully hand slapped whenever i've reached for what I think might be a good on the go snack food for my purse. lol.
I have found at Costco today Snapea Crisps (100Cal, 3.5g fat, 0g sugar, 4g protein) which are supremely awesome to switch to from my potato chip cravings so i'm totally happy with that...but obviously do not want to ONLY eat that otherwise I'll get sick of them mighty quick.
So my question is what do you buy for grab n go snacks?
thanks,
Margo

That really depends on what eating stage you're at. The product you mentioned is something I would consider a treat, not a real snack for a post-op.

No you're right I am only considering the Snapeas as a treat not an everyday snack for sure. I am still Pre-op I get my appointment in the morning actually hopefully it isn't too far out.

I always think of the calorie to protein ratio. I aim for 10 calories for every one gram of protein. My fav snack that fits into that ratio is string cheese! 60 cals, 6 grams of protein. Other choices are greek yogurt, 1/2 a quest bar (not my favorite)& nuts.
I would eat snappea crisps if I had all my protein in and wanted a crunchy treat at the end of the day, but I would probably pick Skinny pop or Boom Chica Pop instead because it's lower cal.
I first had popcorn around then and I had no trouble. BUT, like I said in another post, I only eat it if I've had all my protein for the day already. I should also say, that chips and salty snacks were never trigger foods for me. I have no problem saying no, or just having a small bit. Some other posters have mentioned they stay away from that kind of stuff to just avoid getting back to old habits. For me that would be bread and sweets. At this points, I don't even try because I don't want to go back down that slippery slope.
Where do you buy Boom Chica Pop and Skinny Pop from? i've never seen them at the store before.

Zehrs (Loblaws) has Boom Chica Pop in their Natural foods section. I bought Skinny Pop at a local market in my area but my friend told me they have it at Costco. I definitely don't have it every day. But it's nice to bring a baggy full to movie night at a friends house or something like that. I eat about a cup for a serving and only after I've had all my protein for the day.
One lazy day I came home after work and had some. That was a mistake because then I wasn't hungry for supper. Won't do that again.
